Dallas Stars vs St. Louis Blues Prediction
The Central Division has been arguably the most competitive division in hockey up to this point. Nashville leads the division, with St. Louis and Winnipeg right behind them. Dallas, Chicago and Minnesota also are in competitive positions in the division.
St. Louis is 18-8-2 on the new season, but have seen their share of struggles recently. Before beating the Canadiens on Tuesday night, the Blues had lost three straight and four of their last five. Three of those four losses came at home. After jumping out to a huge lead in the Central Division, the Blues have allowed the Jets and Predators to catch up. St. Louis will look to get back on track Thursday night.
Dallas has gone 16-11-1 on the season, which has secured them the fourth place spot in the Central Division. The Stars struggled early in the season, but have since been much better. Dallas lost their last game to Nashville at home, but before that had won five straight. The Stars want to continue to climb back into division competition with a win against the Blues.
Both teams have had some issues with their starting goaltenders. The Blues starter, Jake Allen, has gone a respectable 14-6-2, but has not had the best numbers to back it up. Allen has a save percentage of .906 and a GAA of 2.75. St. Louis has played solid defense to limit the amount of quality shots that opposing teams have taken.
Ben Bishop is playing his first season with the Stars. Bishop, like Allen, has a respectable record of 13-8, but has not posted his best numbers in net. Bishop has a save percentage of .910 and a 2.68 GAA. Bishop’s numbers have been slightly better, and he has played great recently. He is a big reason why the Stars have found success in the last few games.
Dallas Stars (+136) at St. Louis Blues (-150)
The Blues have found plenty of success, but without the help of their special team’s unit. Dallas on the other hand, has been quite successful on special teams. The Stars have scored on 20.45 percent of their power play attempts. St. Louis has been able to stop 78.16 of penalties against them. The Blues have scored on 17 percent of their man advantages, but the Stars have stopped opponent’s 83.17 percent of the time.
Dallas has been the better team recently and I do not believe that it is reflected in the money line. St. Louis is -150, which implies a sixty-seven percent chance of winning. I believe at the highest it should be a sixty percent chance of winning. That makes me like the Stars for this pick.
