Los Angeles Kings vs. Edmonton Oilers Predictions
The Kings are entering Saturday nights matchup sitting in a playoff spot. Los Angeles is currently in third place in the Pacific Division. This season the Kings have gone 41-27-7. The Kings have won a game then lost a game since the beginning of March. Los Angeles took their last matchup against Colorado by a score of 7-1.
Edmonton is sitting outside the playoff picture after making a solid playoff run only last season. The Oilers have gone 33-36-5, which has them in sixth place in the Pacific Division. Edmonton has been finishing out the season on a decent streak. The Oilers have won six of their last nine games. The Oilers won their last game 6-2.
The first time these two teams met was on January 2. Dustin Brown scored two goals as the Kings won the game 5-0 in Edmonton. Jonathan Quick made thirty-two saves for the shutout. The second game between these two teams was in Los Angeles on February 7. Edmonton’s captain Connor McDavid and Los Angeles’s captain Anze Kopitar each scored a goal and added an assist. The Kings though, once again pulled away with a dominant 5-2 victory. Darcy Kuemper stopped twenty-five shots for the Kings win.
The third and most recent game between the Oilers and the Kings was on February 24. The Kings hosted the game again. Mike Cammalleri had three assists and Ryan Strome added a goal and an assist of his own as the Oilers won 4-3.
Los Angeles Kings (-120) vs. Edmonton Oilers (+109)
Cam Talbot is likely going to be in net for the Oilers on Saturday night. Talbot has gone 28-27-2 this season. He has a .909 save percentage and a GAA of 2.96. Jonathan Quick is expected to be in net for the Kings. Quick has a .922 save percentage and a 2.41 GAA. Quick has gone 30-26-2.
Trevor Lewis is questionable with an upper body injury for the Kings. Oscar Klefbom is out for the season for Edmonton after he underwent shoulder surgery. Andrej Sekera and Zach Kassian are both questionable for the Oilers. Los Angeles is listed as -120, which is giving implied odds of 55 percent. The Kings have stayed steady in odds throughout most of the day. I believe the Oilers are better than the odds imply.
The Oilers are at home and on a winning streak. The Kings have been struggling recently, which makes them less attractive as a pick. Los Angeles leads the season series 2-1, but to make it 3-1 they would have to win another game in Edmonton. The Oilers will still have a good home crowd, even though they are out of playoff contention. I believe Edmonton will pull off the upset on Saturday night.
