Pittsburgh Penguins vs Boston Bruins Predictions
The Penguins are 36-24-4 this season, which is good enough to put them in third place of the Metropolitan Division. Pittsburgh has been on a bit of a rough patch. The Penguins have lost two games in a row. Boston has gone 38-15-8 this season. The Bruins are third place in the Atlantic Division. The Bruins are coming off a come from behind victory against the Hurricanes.
The first matchup between these two teams was back on November 24 in Boston. The Bruins won the first game 4-3. The Bruins had a 2-0 lead after the first period. The Penguins battled back though. Pittsburgh scored three goals in the second period to tie it up at 3-3. David Pastrnak would end up being the hero for Boston though. Pastrnak scored the game winning goal five minutes into the third period.
The second and most recent matchup between these two teams was back on January 7 in Pittsburgh. The Penguins would jump out to the fast start this time around as they had a 3-1 lead at the end of the first period. Boston scored four goals in the second period though, which led to a 5-4 lead at the end of the second period. Riley Sheahan scored his fourth goal of the season to send it to overtime. Evgeni Malkin scored his second goal of the night. Pittsburgh pulled off the 6-5 victory in overtime.
Tuukka Rask has been solid in net for Bruins. Rask has gone 25-11-4, which has been a great thing for the Bruins. He has a save percentage of .921 and a GAA of 2.23. Rask will be looking to give Bruins the edge in net.
Pittsburgh Penguins (+116) at Boston Bruins (-128)
Casey DeSmith is expected to be in net for the Penguins on Thursday night. DeSmith has seen more playing time since Matt Murray went down with a concussion. DeSmith has gone 3-4, which is not great, but his stats have been superb. He has a save percentage of .925 and a GAA of 2.35.
Matt Murray is the biggest injury for the Penguins. Murray is out with a concussion right now. Patrice Bergeron is out for the Bruins until at least the middle of March. Anders Bjork is out for the season for the Bruins. He had to undergo shoulder surgery about a month ago.
The Penguins are underdogs in this game, which is a big shock in my opinion. Pittsburgh has been a solid team recently, while the Bruins have been falling back down to Earth. I believe that the Bruins will continue to struggle without Patrice Bergeron. As a -128 in this game, Boston is expected to win fifty-six percent of the time. I believe this game should be closer to a fifty-fifty split. That makes the Penguins an appealing pick in my opinion.
