Free NHL Consensus Playoffs Picks: Jets vs Predators (Game 7)
Thursday night is host to only one game in the NHL, but it is expected to be a great one. Nashville hosts the Jets in Game 7 of the second round. The Predators and Jets will play in a winner takes all game at 8:00 PM ET on NBCSN. Here is my best hockey bet and prediction for May 10. Odds can be found at BetOnline.
Winnipeg Jets vs. Nashville Predators Predictions
Nashville and Winnipeg have been a perfect match this whole season. The Jets finished second in the NHL with a 52-20-10 record. The Predators were the only team ahead of Winnipeg at the end of the season. Nashville finished the season 53-18-11. The Predators beat Colorado in six games in their first round series, while Winnipeg disposed of Minnesota in five games.
Game 1 of this series was in Nashville, but Winnipeg pulled off the upset. Mark Scheifele scored two goals and Connor Hellebuyck had 47 saves in route to a 4-1 victory. Pekka Rinne allowed three goals on 16 shots.
The Predators were able to come back and win a very important matchup in Game 2. Nashville won 5-4 in double overtime. Mark Scheifele had another two goals and added an assist. Viktor Arvidsson and Filip Forsberg each had three points. Rinne turned away 46 of 50 shots.
Previous Game Performances Between Jets and Predators
Nashville and Winnipeg were in another high scoring affair for Game 3. The Jets were able to come out on top with a 7-4 win. Mattias Ekholm, Ryan Johansen, P.K. Subban and Forsberg each had two points, but Winnipeg had Paul Stastny, Dustin Byfuglien and Blake Wheeler each earn three points to lead the Jets to victory.
Game 4 turned into a much lower scoring affair as the Predators came out on top 2-1. Ryan Hartman and P.K. Subban each scored for Nashville, while Patrik Laine scored the lone goal for Winnipeg. Rinne had 32 saves, Hellebuyck turned away 27 shots.
Game 5 returned to Nashville and the Jets once again were able to dominate on Nashville’s ice. The Jets won 6-2. Kyle Connor scored two goals and added an assist, while Blake Wheeler had three assists. Hellebuyck was superb with 38 saves.
Nashville was able to send the series to a Game 7 with a win in Game 6. The Predators won 4-0 in Winnipeg. Arvidsson and Forsberg each had two goals and an assist in route to the win. Rinne stepped up big for Nashville as he turned away 34 shots.
Both goalies have been hot and cold throughout this series. Rinne has a .907 save percentage and a 2.94 GAA in the playoffs so far. Hellebuyck has a save percentage of .922 and a GAA of 2.36. Both teams will lean heavily on their goaltenders to lead them to victory in Game 7.
Winnipeg Jets (+143) at Nashville Predators (-158) Betting Odds
The line has Nashville listed at a -158 money line, which implies they win this game 61 percent of the time. I do not believe either team wins this game over 55 percent of the time. Both teams have been even matches for each other and it does not reflect as much as it should in the money line. Nashville should be favored because they are in front of their home crowd, but not by as much as they are.
Winnipeg has won in Nashville twice in this series. Neither team has lost back to back games in the series either. The Jets are a great team and it will be tough to knock them out even if Nashville is at home. Winnipeg has been playing a fast pace game that has scored a lot of goals on Rinne. If Rinne cannot continue what he started in Game 6, Nashville could be in trouble. I believe this game could go either way, but as such a big underdog I am going with the Jets.
