The NHL will have three games on the board for Saturday night. Two of the series enter the night at 3-1, while Washington and Columbus are tied 2-2. One of the 3-1 series is between Boston and Toronto. The rivalry seems to be heating up as the series goes along and with the Maple Leafs one game from elimination. Toronto Maple Leafs vs. Boston Bruins Predictions
The Bruins have jumped ahead in the series 3-1. After finishing the regular season 50-20-12, Boston believes they have a legitimate chance to go for the Stanley Cup. The Maple Leafs finished the season 49-26-7. Toronto will need to slow down the Bruins offense if they want to take game 5 to get back into this series. Game 1 was held in Boston and the Bruins dominated the matchup. Boston ended up with a 5-1 victory. David Pastrnak scored a goal and had two assists to help lead the Bruins to victory. Tuukka Rask turned away 26 of 27 shots. Frederick Andersen stopped 35 shots.
The Bruins again hosted Game 2 and again Boston dominated the Maple Leafs. The Bruins finished with a 7-3 win. Pastrnak led the way for the Bruins with three goals and three assists. Brad Marchand and Patrice Bergeron each had four assists. Rask turned away 30 shots. In Game 3 the series shifted to Toronto. The Maple Leafs were able to give their home fans a 4-2 win. Patrick Marleau scored two goals. Mitch Marner and Morgan Rielly each had two assists. Rask had 26 saves. Andersen stopped 40 of 42 shots.
Game 4 was won by Boston in a 3-1 victory. The Bruins were led by Pastrnak in points again as he picked up another two assists. Tomas Plekanec was the lone goal scorer for the Maple Leafs. Andersen had 18 saves. Rask had 31 saves. Rask has a .926 save percentage and a GAA of 2.28 during the series. Andersen has a save percentage of .880 and a 4.13 GAA. Andersen will need to step up his game if the Maple Leafs want to remain in the playoffs.
The Bruins will be missing Brandon Carlo and Anders Bjork will each be missing out on Saturday nights game. Patrice Bergeron is questionable for Game 5. If Bergeron is missing, that would be a huge blow for the Bruins lineup. Bergeron missed game 4, but Boston will have difficulty containing the Maple Leafs top line without Bergeron.
Toronto Maple Leafs (+162) at Boston Bruins (-180)
Joffrey Lupul is going to miss game 5, which is to no surprise as he has not played all season. Leo Komarov is questionable for game 5. Nazem Kadri is going to return to Toronto’s lineup on Saturday night. Kadri has missed the last three games due to suspension, but he will be a huge boost to the lineup.
The Bruins have the perfect opportunity to close out the series on home ice, but I believe that if Bergeron misses Saturday nights game that they will have some difficulty. The one game Bergeron missed, was the only matchup that Toronto was able to outshoot Boston. With Kadri also returning, the Maple Leafs will be able to put together one last push.
The line has Toronto listed as a +162, which is a big underdog for two teams that were competitive in the regular season. The Maple Leafs are going to compete with their backs against the wall. I believe the Maple Leafs have a legitimate chance to pull off the upset.
