Free NHL Consensus Playoffs Picks: Predators vs Jets (Game 4)
The NHL exciting second round continues Thursday night. The four matchups going on have all been close matchups with the potential to go the whole seven game series. On Thursday, Winnipeg looks to take a 3-1 series lead on the Predators at home. That game will be on NBCSN at 9:30 PM ET. Here is my best bet for May 3. Odds can be found at BetOnline.
Nashville Predators vs. Winnipeg Jets Predictions
Winnipeg finished the season in second place of the entire NHL standings. The Jets went 52-20-10 during the regular season. The Jets took care of the Minnesota Wild in the first round in five games. The only team to be ahead of Winnipeg in the standings at the end of the season was Nashville. The Predators ended the season at 53-18-11. Nashville won their first round matchup against the Avalanche in six games.
Nashville hosted the first game of this series and lost 4-1. Mark Scheifele scored two goals in route to the win. Connor Hellebuyck stopped 47 of 48 shots. Pekka Rinne got pulled after two periods. Rinne let in three goals on 16 shots.
Nashville won a nail biter in Game 2. The Predators won 5-4 in double overtime. Scheifele scored two goals and added an assist in Game 2. Victor Arvidsson and Filip Forsberg each had three points in the win. Rinne turned away 46 of 50 shots.
Nashville jumped out to a tremendous start in Game 3. The Predators led 3-0 after the first period, but Winnipeg would not just go away. The Jets scored four unanswered goals in the second period to take a lead. Winnipeg went on to win 7-4. Dustin Byfuglien and Blake Wheeler each scored two goals and added an assist in the win.
Joel Armia, Mathieu Perreault and Dmitry Kulikov will each be out for the Jets in Game 4. Calle Jarnkrok and Yannick Weber are each questionable for the Predators in Game 4.
Connor Hellebuyck is going to be in net for the Jets. Hellebuyck has a save percentage of .920 and a 2.36 GAA in the playoffs. Pekka Rinne is expected to be in net for the Predators, but I expect him to be on a short leash because of his recent performance. Rinne has a .901 save percentage and a GAA of 3.07. Both goalies are Vezina Trophy finalists, so either one could steal the show on Thursday night.
Predators (+125) at Jets (-138) Pick and Odds
The Predators did not win the Presidents Trophy for no reason at all. Nashville has a great all-around team, but they need to finish out the game. Nashville will not win this series by expecting to cost to victory after quick starts. The Predators also need to stay more disciplined. Nashville has taken costly penalties, like the one that led to the game winning goal in Game 3. I have no doubt that Peter Laviolette is telling his team the same thing. I expect Nashville to respond to Game 3’s disappointing effort with a win on Thursday night.
Nashville is listed at a +125, which is a reasonable money line after losing two of the first three games. The Predators and Jets have been going back and fourth in each game, which shows how evenly matched they are. I believe that this game will come down to the wire and I believe it should reflect more in the money line. If Nashville can clean up their game, they have a legitimate shot to tie up the series in Game 4.
