Free NHL Picks For Tonight (Nov 14): Blue Jackets vs Canadiens Prediction
Columbus Blue Jackets (+100) at Montreal Canadiens (-110)
Tuesday has eight games on the calendar. One of these games includes Montreal hosting Columbus. This will be the first of three matchups between the two teams. Odds can be found at BetOnline.
Both the Blue Jackets and the Canadiens have had opposite seasons to this point. Columbus started out the season 9-4, but have since gone 1-3-1. Montreal struggled out of the gate going 2-7-1 in their first ten games. The Canadiens have been stronger over the last eight games, going 6-2. The Blue Jackets are coming off a 2-1 shootout victory against the Red Wings. Montreal won 2-1 in overtime against the Sabres.
Both teams have struggled on the special team’s side. The Blue Jackets have the worst power play. It has gone a terrible 9.6 percent. Montreal has done slightly better with a 16.42 percent power play. The penalty killing for each team has not been spectacular either. The Blue Jackets have been hovering around the league average, killing off 80.43 percent of their penalties. The Canadiens have killed off only 75 percent of their penalties. Both teams will need to get some sort of special teams going to try and get the edge in this matchup.
The Canadiens have had injury issues with their goalies recently. Carey Price has been dealing with a lower back injury. Montreal’s backup goaltender Al Montoya will be out for a while with a concussion. Carey Price could be returning for Tuesday’s matchup. He has a .877 save percentage on the season with a GAA of 3.77. If Price cannot suit up for Tuesday night’s matchup, Charlie Lindgren will get the start. Lindgren has posted a .964 save percentage and a 1.24 GAA in four games.
Sergei Bobrovsky is likely to get the start for the Blue Jackets. Bobrovsky has been great this season. He has posted a .925 save percentage and a 2.24 GAA. As long as Bobrovsky continues to play well, the Blue Jackets will have the edge in goaltending for Tuesday night’s matchup.
The Blue Jackets been led by their younger guys this season. Artemi Panarin, who is in his third season, leads the team with thirteen points. Seth Jones follows closely behind with twelve. Columbus also has had players like Oliver Bjorkstrand, Zack Werenski and Alexander Wennberg step us as well. The younger players give the Blue Jackets a faster team, which can be a huge boost if Columbus can control the tempo of the game.
Columbus Blue Jackets vs Montreal Canadiens Prediction
The Canadiens have a three-way tie for the team lead in points. Brendan Gallagher, Max Pacioretty and Jonathan Drouin all have twelve points. Phillip Danault and Shea Weber are tied for second with eleven points. Montreal will need to get more depth scoring if they are to continue this winning streak.
This game is listed close to even, but I believe the Blue Jackets are close to breaking out of their slump. Columbus has been the better team on the new season and I expect that to show in Tuesday night’s game.
