Free NHL Picks For Tonight (Nov 18): Oilers vs Stars Prediction
November 18 is the beginning of another busy hockey weekend. Saturday offers a mix of thirteen games. So far this season, Saturdays have brought many upsets and close hockey games. Here are my best bets for this Saturday’s matchups. Odds can be found at BetOnline.
Edmonton Oilers (+110) at Dallas Stars (-121)
Both the Stars and the Oilers have been underperforming early in the new season. Edmonton has gone 7-10-2 after a second-round exit in last year’s playoffs. The Oilers have been relying heavily on McDavid’s efforts. McDavid has been playing at a high level, but the team has not given him much help. The Stars were expected to be one of the NHL’s most improved teams this season, but have started out 9-9-1.
Dallas enters the night on a three-game losing streak. All three losses were on the road, but two of them were to the Panthers and Hurricanes. Both of which were expected to be winnable games. The Stars last loss was more reasonable. They lost to the number one team in the NHL, the Tampa Bay Lightning. Tampa Bay won 6-1, lighting up their former goaltender Ben Bishop.
Edmonton’s game in Dallas is the start of another extended road-trip. The Oilers will be playing five straight on the road. If the Oilers want to fight back into playoff contention, they will need to win games like this one. Edmonton is coming off back to back matchups at home. They beat the Golden Knights 8-2, then lost to the Blues 4-1. Before the back to back games at home, Edmonton was on the road four a four-game road trip. On the road trip, Edmonton went 2-1-1.
This game will be the second of the season for the Oilers and the Stars. In the first matchup the Oilers won 5-4. McDavid scored a goal and Draisaitl added three assists to propel the Oilers to victory. The real hero of the game was Matt Benning though, who scored the game winning goal with only two and a half minutes left in regulation.
The Stars brought in Ben Bishop to fix the goaltending issues that had been holding them back in the past. Unfortunately for the Stars, goaltending continues to cause an issue. Ben Bishop has posted a .899 save percentage and a 2.91 GAA on the season. Bishop allowed six goals last game against the Lightning. Kari Lehtonen has played six times on the season posting a .910 save percentage to go along with a 2.48 GAA. Lehtonen has only been able to secure two victories though. Lehtonen is expected to start in Saturday’s matchup.
Edmonton Oilers vs Dallas Stars Prediction
Connor McDavid will be suiting up against the Stars for the sixth time in his young career. McDavid has found success against the Stars in the past. In his first five games, McDavid has scored six goals and added an assist. If McDavid can continue to find ways to put up points against the Stars, Dallas could find themselves with a four-game skid.
As an underdog in this matchup between underwhelming teams, I believe the Oilers are the best bet. The Stars have struggled to find ways to win recently and the Oilers have been a better team on the road. If McDavid can beat the Stars struggling goaltending, the Oilers will have a good chance to win.
