Free NHL Picks For Tonight (Nov 10): Penguins vs Capitals Meet In A Rematch
Friday’s schedule is filled with seven games. One of these matchups includes the Stockholm, Sweden game between the Avalanche and the Senators. Duchene will be on the ice with Ottawa after being traded by Colorado earlier this week. Here are my picks for November 10. Odds can be found at BetOnline.
Pittsburgh Penguins (+105) at Washington Capitals (-116)
The Penguins and Capitals meet for the second time this season. Last playoffs the Capitals entered as the number one seed in the Eastern Conference. In the second round, the Capitals lost to the Penguins in seven games. Two years ago, Washington was the number one seed. When they met the Penguins in the second round, they lost in six games. After being knocked out back to back years by the Penguins, this matchup has become a rivalry.
The first time these two teams met this season the Penguins won 3-2. The game was held in Washington. The Penguins scored all three goals on the power play. Pittsburgh finished the game three for six on the power play. The Capitals were not able to score on four power-play opportunities.
The Penguins power play is still working at a very high efficiency. The Penguins have gone 27.69 percent on the power play, scoring a total of eighteen goals. Washington has been slightly below league average with a 77.27 percent penalty kill. If the Penguins can continue to burn the Capitals penalty kill, Pittsburgh will have a big edge on Washington.
Pittsburgh Penguins vs Washington Capitals Prediction
Washington has struggled on the power play this season. The Capitals have had a lower than league average 18.00 percent with the man advantage. Pittsburgh has posted an 81.54 percent on the penalty kill. Once again, the Penguins have the edge against the Capitals power play.
Washington has won the Presidents Trophy in back to back seasons. The Capitals have not looked like a team that could go for the third trophy in a row this season. Washington has been inconsistent early and struggled to get any string of wins together. Alex Ovechkin once again is leading the team, but has struggled against the Penguins in past years. Ovechkin will need to have a good game if the Capitals are to win Friday night.
By saying this game is anything but even is odd to me. The odds imply that the Capitals will win this game 53 percent of the time. The past shows that the Penguins win more than 50 percent of their games against Washington. As an underdog in this matchup, I believe the Penguins are the best bet.
Ottawa Senators -1 ½ (+225) at Colorado Avalanche +1 ½ (-265)
Ottawa and Colorado meet up in Stockholm, Sweden for back to back matchups. The Avalanche are looking to continue to rebuild their team after giving up Matt Duchene. Duchene was traded to the Senators, who funnily enough meet up with Colorado right after the trade. These will be the only two matchups between the two teams this season.
The Senators have been in just about every game this season. They hold a 6-3-5 record. Mark Stone leads the team with sixteen points and nine goals. Kyle Turris was a part of the Duchene trade, he is now on Nashville. Turris scored three goals with the team and added another six assists.
Ottawa has players like Erik Karlsson, Mike Hoffman and Derick Brassard who can also put up points. All three have thirteen points on the year. The most impressive though is Karlsson, who missed the first five games due to injury. He will be playing in his home country Friday night.
Nathan MacKinnon and Tyson Barrie are both tied for the team lead in points on the Avalanche. Both players have put up fourteen points. Mikko Rantanen, Gabriel Landeskog and Alexander Kerfoot are all tied for the team lead on goals with five. The Avalanche have been able to hold an 8-6 record early in the season largely due to the depth scoring of the team. This is messed up though with Duchene gone. The lines will have to be redone, which could ruin some of the chemistry of the team.
Ottawa Senators vs Colorado Avalanche Prediction
Semyon Varlamov has been another key piece of the Avalanche this year. Varlamov has posted a .911 save percentage and a GAA of 3.09. Craig Anderson started off the season very hot for the Senators. He has since cooled down, posting a .896 save percentage and a 3.13 GAA. If Anderson can get back to his early form, it would push the Senators to a higher level.
With the addition of Duchene, the Senators have jumped back to the level of a Stanley Cup contender. Ottawa will be looking to start even hotter than before overseas on Friday night. As for the Avalanche, they look to be starting a rebuild after trading away Duchene for a load of picks and prospects. I believe the best bet on this game is for the Senators to dominate with a rejuvenated offense.
