Free NHL Picks For Tonight (Nov 22): Rangers vs Hurricanes Prediction
November 22 offers a fifteen-game mix for NHL Hockey. The St. Louis Blues will be the only team without a game. With fifteen games on before a daybreak, there are bound to be some pivotal matchups. Here are my best bets for Wednesday night’s hockey games. Odds can be found at BetOnline.
New York Rangers (+113) at Carolina Hurricanes (-125)
The New York Rangers started out the season looking like they needed a rebuild, but after winning seven of their last nine the Rangers are back into playoff contention. New York has brought their record up to 10-9-2, which has them tied for sixth place in the Metropolitan Division.
The Hurricanes are the team the Rangers are tied with for sixth place in the Metropolitan. Carolina has been a very up and down team on the new season. The Hurricanes hold a 9-6-4 record. The Hurricanes have only won four of their nine games at home.
This matchup could give one of these teams the momentum push they need to jump into the Metropolitan standings. The deciding factor in this game could come down to special teams. The Rangers have scored on 22.67 percent of their man advantages, while the Hurricanes have only scored on 15.38 percent of their power plays.
The Hurricanes power play has been struggling and that could continue because of the Rangers penalty kill. New York has been above the league average. They have killed off 81.43 percent of their penalties against. The Hurricanes have been similar, killing off 80.85 percent. The special teams could give the Rangers an edge in this matchup. Carolina will need to fix their power play issues if they want to keep up with or surpass New York’s power play.
The Hurricanes have been riding the hot hand of Teuvo Teravainen. Teravainen has scored eight goals and eleven assists on the season. Five of those goals and five of those assists have come in the last four games. If Teravainen can continue to put up points it will create an issue for the Rangers. Jeff Skinner still leads the team in goals with nine, but has only notched four assists. Skinner needs to find ways to get his teammates involved to help the Hurricanes make the next step.
Mika Zibanejad and Kevin Shattenkirk have led the team in scoring. Zibanejad has twenty points, ten of them being goals. Shattenkirk has seventeen points. Like the Hurricanes, the Rangers rely on scoring from all lines. It will be a battle for each line as both teams match up mostly evenly.
New York Rangers vs Carolina Hurricanes Prediction
Henrik Lundqvist and Scott Darling are expected to get the start. Lundqvist has posted a .911 save percentage on the season to go along with his 2.81 GAA. Darling has similar numbers with a .909 save percentage and a GAA of 2.46. Both goalies are pretty even, and both have the ability to steal a game.
The Rangers have lost the last two games on the road, but will need to turn that around if they want to get back into the division. At a -125 money line the Hurricanes are expected to win this game around fifty-six percent of the time. I believe these two teams are close matches, making the game closer to a fifty-fifty split. As the road underdog the Rangers could be a good bet to take.
