Free NHL Picks For Tonight (Nov 18): Wild vs Capitals Prediction
November 18 is the beginning of another busy hockey weekend. Saturday offers a mix of thirteen games. So far this season, Saturday’s have brought many upsets and close hockey games. Here are my best bets for this Saturday’s matchups. Odds can be found at BetOnline.
Minnesota Wild (+120) at Washington Capitals (-133)
The Wild are one of the hottest teams in the NHL right now. Minnesota comes into Saturday’s game on a four-game winning streak. The streak has pushed the Wild back into playoff contention after a poor start. Minnesota sits at 9-7-2. After finishing first place in the entire NHL in back to back seasons, Washington has been less impressive this season. The Capitals are 10-9-1.
Washington will enter the night losers of two straight. The Capitals allowed six goals in each game, scoring only five in the two combined. Washington’s last game was against the Avalanche Thursday night. Colorado dismantled the Capitals 6-2. Gabriel Landeskog notched a hat trick, while Nathan MacKinnon added a goal and four assists. Colorado scored two power play goals and added a third on a penalty shot. The game was an all-around mess for the Capitals.
Minnesota’s Thursday night matchup went much better. The Wild found themselves being outplayed throughout most of the game, but were able to find a way to win at the very end. Minnesota was down 4-2 with about seven minutes remaining in the third. Ryan Suter and Eric Staal scored a couple minutes apart to tie it up with about five minutes left. Jason Zucker continued his hot streak with the game winning goal with three minutes left on the clock. Jared Spurgeon added an empty netter to seal the deal.
Four goals were scored by the Wild in the last seven minutes of the game, and if the Wild can continue to find ways to win like they have been, the Capitals could struggle at home Saturday night.
Devan Dubnyk and Braden Holtby have been going in opposite directions. Dubnyk’s level of play has been on an elite level during this streak. Dubnyk has played in all four of the Wild’s games during the winning streak and has stopped 129 of 133 shots faced. This gives Dubnyk a save percentage of close to .970. Dubnyk’s save percentage on the season is at .922 with a GAA of 2.48.
Minnesota Wild vs Washington Capitals Prediction
Braden Holtby has faltered a bit as of recently after starting the season out with elite numbers. Holtby is still posting great numbers, but he is being forced to carry the team at times. Holtby has posted a .918 save percentage and a 2.68 GAA. Holtby has all the teams wins on the season as Phillip Grubauer has failed to get one in his six starts. Grubauer has a save percentage of .876 and a GAA of 3.86. Holtby is expected to get the start after Grubauer started last game against Colorado.
The Wild have implied odds of forty-five percent with a +120 money line. Minnesota is one of the hottest teams in the league right now, playing against the Capitals who lost back to back. If Jason Zucker can continue to score and Devan Dubnyk can post elite numbers, the Wild will have a real chance to win in Washington.
