Capitals Vs. Golden Knights Predictions – 2018 Stanley Cup Finals Betting (Game 3)
The Stanley Cup Finals continue Saturday night as the series shifts back to Washington. The series is tied up at 1-1 after the Capitals were able to pull off the upset in Game 2. The Golden Knights will now need to steal a game on the road if they want to stay on proper pace. The game will be at 8:00 PM ET on NBCSN. My picks for tonight is below and the odds can be found at Sportsbetting.ag – Don’t Miss 50% Up To $1000 Bonus.
Vegas Golden Knights Vs. Washington Capitals Predictions
The Golden Knights are looking to finish off a perfect inaugural season with a Stanley Cup Championship. Vegas finished the regular season with a 51-24-7 record, which put them in 1st place of the Pacific Division. Golden Knights then beat the Kings, San Jose Sharks and Winnipeg Jets to book a trip to the Stanley Cup. Vegas is already the Kings of the Western Conference, but everyone on the roster has their eyes set on a bigger prize.
Washington advanced to their second Stanley Cup Final, the first of the Ovechkin era. The Capitals finished the regular season with a 49-26-7 record, which won them the Metropolitan Division. Washington beat the Columbus Blue Jackets, Pittsburgh Penguins and Tampa Bay Lightning to win the Eastern Conference. Washington has not been great at home during the playoffs. The Capitals have gone 4-5 in front of the home crowd, while Vegas has gone 6-2 on the road.
Game 1 was held in Vegas and was a high scoring affair. Vegas and Washington exchanged blows in the first period and came out tied 2-2. The Capitals held a 4-3 lead early in the third, but three unanswered goals by Vegas led to a 6-3 victory. Nicklas Backstrom had a goal and an assist. Tomas Nosek had two goals and Reilly Smith had a goal and an assist in the win. Marc-Andre Fleury had 24 saves, while Holtby had 28.
Game 2 was not as high scoring, but just as exciting. The Golden Knights struck first, but three unanswered goals gave the Capitals a solid lead. Vegas was able to score once more but ended up losing 3-2. Lars Eller had a goal and two assists and Alex Ovechkin had his first career Stanley Cup Final goal. Holtby had 37 saves. Fleury stopped 23 shots. Vegas will have Fleury in net again for Game 3. Fleury has a save percentage of .939 and a GAA of 1.88 in the playoffs. Fleury has not done quite as good in the series. He has a .870 save percentage and a 3.50 GAA in this year’s Stanley Cup Finals.
Vegas Golden Knights (+111) Vs. Washington Capitals (-123)
Braden Holtby will get the start in front of the home crowd and he will look to continue off last game’s performance. Holtby has a save percentage of .921 and a 2.19 GAA in this season’s playoffs. He has a .903 save percentage and a GAA of 3.50 in the Stanley Cup Finals. The Capitals are listed as favorites as the series shifts back to Washington. Washington is listed at a money line of -123, which implies they win this matchup 55 percent of the time. I agree with this line as the Capitals should be favored at home in a tied-up series.
Both teams have looked evenly matched throughout the series. Washington could be missing a key player though, as Evgeny Kuznetsov left Game 2 with an arm injury. Kuznetsov has led the Capitals in points this postseason, so his absence would hurt. Vegas has not lost back to back games in the playoffs and I believe this trend could continue. Washington has not been able to consistently get it done at home. They have even lost the first game at home in the previous three series. I expect Vegas to step up and spoil Game 3 for the Caps.
