Toronto Raptors Vs. Golden State Warriors Predictions
Are we ready for a taste of what could be the 2019 NBA finals in June? The Toronto Raptors will have a chance to prove they are for real when visiting the Golden State Warriors on Wednesday Night. It will be the second time they meet in the last two weeks, and the last time they’ll see each other this season before a potential final. The Warriors remain as the favorite to win the title despite their ups and downs this year. MyBookie.ag has them at -180 to win their third straight NBA championship and fourth in the last five years. The Raptors follow them at +800. Toronto has the best future odds of the teams in the Eastern Conference.
Toronto will be playing on back-to-back nights when they jump on the Oracle Arena’s floor. They will go against the Los Angeles Clippers on Tuesday night. The Raptors are currently in their biggest hole of the season. It’s not a huge one but still is surprising for a team that has been consistent all year. Before the visit to the Staples Center, the Raptors have lost three of their last four games, including consecutive outings against the Brooklyn Nets and the Milwaukee Bucks.
The 104-99 home loss against the Bucks saw Toronto failed to cover the spread as a 5-point favorite. The Raptors’ second guy in command Kyle Lowry was held scoreless against Milwaukee. He went 0-5 from the floor. Lowry has been awful in December, averaging 3.8 points per game and posting a .143 field goal percentage. When Lowry sufferers slumps like the one he’s currently on the doubts about the Raptors come back to everyone’s mind. And it’s fair. We have seen Toronto disappoint time and time again during the playoffs. The lack of clutch performances by Kyle Lowry is part of the reason.
Golden State already lost to the Raptors two weeks ago in Toronto. The 131-128 overtime defeat saw Kevin Durant go crazy with 51 points while shooting 4-7 from three-point land. Durant didn’t have any help that night other than Klay Thompson’s 23 points. Draymond Green and Steph Curry were injured for that matchup. Both will be available for the meeting on Wednesday Night. With a complete team, the Warriors have gone back to the roots. Golden State is on a four-game winning streak.
It includes wins over the Atlanta Hawks, Cleveland Cavaliers, Milwaukee Bucks, and the Minnesota Timberwolves. They covered the spread in three of those four wins. Playing against the Warriors is a numbers’ game. While Kawhi Leonard can toe-to-toe with Kevin Durant both in scoring and defending, Steph Curry has no match at the other side. Toronto doesn’t have a player that can equal Curry’s scoring chart. We have seen Kyle Lowry chokes in this type of games.
Then there is the return of Draymond Green who does the dirty work, and I haven’t even mentioned Klay, who can go bananas in scoring on any given night. Think about this. At home, the Raptors needed extra time to beat the Warriors in the first meeting of the season. Golden State was a one-man show under Durant. Now he doesn’t need to go full superhero to win it. He has help on his side. I’m taking the Warriors to win this one by seven points. Golden State is not going to let anybody sweep the regular season series against them. Let alone in a matchup that the entire NBA world will be watching.
