Hurricanes Vs. Capitals Predictions | NHL Playoffs 2019 Game 7 Picks

Carolina Hurricanes Vs. Washington Capitals Betting Preview

I have to be honest. I wasn’t expecting the Washington Capitals to be in this mess so early in the postseason. The Caps are facing elimination for the first time in the year, and they are about to meet a team with nothing to lose like the Carolina Hurricanes. That’s a dangerous scenario for the current Stanley Cup champs. Washington supposed to be the favorite, right? They won the Stanley Cup last season, and have the better and more experienced team. They also have home-ice advantage. But there are times when they haven’t played like the best team. For example, during Game 6 on Monday night where they were outplayed by the Canes with a 36 to 25 shot margin.

I know it is annoying to compare a team one season to the other, but last year Washington won 10 road games in their path to the Stanley Cup triumph. In the current series, they lost all three games played in North Carolina. Maybe they are not even close to the form they had a year ago. For Washington that doesn’t matter right now. They can deal about the fact they are not winning on the road later. This game is a must-win situation at home, where they have outscored the Hurricanes 14-5 in the three meetings played in this series.

According to MyBookie.ag, the Capitals have the best odds to win the Stanley Cup at +550 even though they are on the verge of elimination. That’s an implied probability of 15% to win the Cup again, which is not bad at all, considering the scenario. The other team with the same odds is the New York Islanders who are waiting for the winner of this series. To bet Carolina to win the Stanley Cup is a long shot at +1600. That’s 6% of chances of happening. But look at it this way; no one believed they had an opportunity against Washington and they are one win away from pulling the upset.

I still have my doubts they are going to come out of the road Game 7 scenario. Playing at the Capital One Arena is usually a losing task for most visitors. I would imagine that Arena will be going crazy on Wednesday Night. I also would expect an aggressive Capitals team right from the start. Washington can’t afford to leave Carolina hanging around thinking they have a shot. I like the odds in the puck line for the Capitals. Two of the three games in this series played at DC have been decided by two goals or more. That includes 6-0 destruction in Game 5. Give me Washington to win without any problems and face the NY Islanders in the next round. What’s the play? Washington -1.5 (+200)
