Idaho State Bengals vs. Gonzaga Bulldogs Predictions

The Champions Classic won’t have the Gonzaga Bulldogs for the 2018 edition. The Zags are the highest-ranked team not to be invited to the Classic. They will start their season facing the weak and basically unknown Idaho State Bengals. Gonzaga is +750 to win the College Basketball championship. They are only behind Kentucky (+550) and Duke (+450) in the future odds to win it all at Mybookie.ag. Kansas (+850) is the next one in line.

The Zags have 20 straight seasons getting into the Big Tournament, and this one should be no different. The one question surrounding them is if they will be able to get the title finally. Gonzaga will start the season without forward Killian Tillie who had surgery just last week due to a stress fracture. He’s expected to miss at least eight weeks. His 12.9 points and 5.9 rebounds per game contribution will be a shadow until he gets back near Christmas. Tillie also shot 48% from three points last season.

Not getting a ticket to the Champions Classic is actually a good thing for Gonzaga. It will get them enough time to assemble a team with the idea of not having Killian Tillie. A game against Idaho State is just the right scenario to start a season. The Zags will enter the season in the easiest way before they actually have to face a good team like Duke at the Maui Invitational. What do we know about Idaho State? Not much, I’ll tell you that, but we don’t need to either. They ended the 2018 season two games under .500. They scored 73.7 points per game and gave up 74.4. Plus, they dropped four of their last six games.

Their 14-16 record from the 2017-18 season was an improvement from the 2016-17 year where they only won five games all season. Of course, they won’t be a match for Gonzaga. These two programs play in two different leagues and expectations are very different for both. Even if the Zags won’t have one of their best players available for the opener, Mark Few is known for always having his team ready for any game situation. Gonzaga should win by this game by 20+points without losing any sleep. What’s the play? Gonzaga -27.5.
