Betting on the Independence Bowl 2019: Louisiana Tech vs. Miami betting line & pick

Independence Bowl 2019 Betting Preview

If anyone remembers the glory days of the Miami-Notre Dame rivalry, it is back; well, sort of.

Louisiana Tech is coached by Skip Holtz, the son of former Notre Dame coach Lou Holtz. The Bulldogs will have a little bit of a home-field advantage playing in their home state of Louisiana when Louisiana Tech (9-3) takes on the Miami Hurricanes (6-6) at Independence Stadium for this year’s Independence Bowl. has Miami as a six-point favorite. The line started at -7.5, indicating a lot of the early money is on the Bulldogs. The total is set at 50.

Bulldogs Look To Keep Bowl Streak Going

Under Holtz, this will be the Bulldogs’ sixth straight bowl appearance, and they haven’t lost in any of those previous five appearances. If they can pull off the sixth in a row, they will have the first 10-win season in program history.

After losing 45-14 to Texas to open the season, Louisiana Tech rolled up eight straight wins, including a victory over Florida International, which had just beat Miami. The Bulldogs lost two in a row at Marshall and UAB before beating Texas-San Antonio to end the season.

Key Players

Quarterback J’Mar Smith is 223 of 339 on the season for 2,814 yards and 17 touchdowns against only four interceptions. He has two go-to receivers in Malik Stanley (37 catches, 574 yards) and Adrian Hardy (41, 525). The Bulldogs’ leading rusher is Justin Henderson, who has 967 yards on 166 attempts with 15 touchdowns.

The defense will have some trouble getting pressure in the passing game, as it has only 20 sacks on the year. The Bulldogs do have 15 interceptions, though, with Amik Robertson leading the way with five. They allow 390.3 yards and 23.7 points per game.

Hurricanes Have An Up-And-Down Season

High expectations are always the norm at Miami. This year was no different, but after two straight losses to open the season against Florida and North Carolina, those expectations were tempered a bit.

After the two losses, the Hurricanes were able to win six of their next eight, including wins against a ranked Virginia team and in-state rival Florida State.

The season ended on a sour note, though, as they lost two straight against Florida International and Duke, not exactly college football royalty.

Key Players

Freshman Jarren Williams has taken over the starting quarterback reins as Miami looks to the future. He is 160 of 256 on the season for 2,093 yards with 19 touchdowns and six interceptions. His top receiver has been K.J. Osborn, who has 45 catches for 491 yards and five touchdowns.

The Hurricanes’ leading rusher is DeeJay Dallas, who has 693 yards on 115 carries with eight touchdowns. Miami has a nice one-two punch in the backfield, as Cam’Ron Harris has 545 yards on 102 carries with five touchdowns.

On defense, Gregory Rousseau is looking like a legitimate NFL prospect, recording 14 sacks on the year. The defense is definitely the strength of the team, allowing only 307.6 yards per game and 20.8 points per game.

Our Miami Vs. Louisiana Tech Independence Bowl 2019 Betting Pick

Louisiana Tech has been a monster in bowl games, but this will be the best team it has played since Navy in 2016. Holtz has been a master with the extra time, scoring at least 31 in all five bowl appearances.

I predict Henderson has a huge day on the ground as the Bulldogs win their sixth straight bowl game. They not only cover but win the game straight up against a Miami team that lacks some motivation. I also like the over play as well if you are looking for another bet.
