Islanders Vs. Hurricanes Betting Predictions | NHL Divisional Finals Game 4 Picks
New York Islanders vs. Carolina Hurricanes Betting Preview
After getting rid of the Pittsburgh Penguins in four games during the first round, the New York Islanders jumped as one of the favorites to win the Stanley Cup. A couple of weeks later they are on the verge of elimination trying to save the season on the road against a hot Carolina Hurricanes team. Game 4 could send the Canes to the Eastern Conference finals for the first time since 2009. It’s safe to say the Hurricanes are on a roll.
When they were down 3-2 against the Capitals in the first round, right after getting slapped 6-0 in Washington, it looked like the perfect time to give up and call it a good season. Carolina did the opposite, winning the last five straight while putting the team a win away from the Conference finals.
The Game 3 win by a 5-2 score has been their biggest win of these playoffs series against the Islanders. Yes, two of their goals came in the last minute after an empty net, but Carolina felt comfortable all night. They not only have the momentum but the mental upper hand over an Islanders team that looks lost and confused. Carolina is now +400 to win the Stanley Cup. The only team with better odds at the time is the San Jose Sharks at +300.
San Jose also leads their series, but only 2-1 over Colorado. For the Hurricanes, the guys making the odds at MyBookie has them with an implied probability of 20% chances they lift the Cup at the end of the playoffs. When the postseason started, we found Carolina at +5200 to win it, and slowly they went from a lovable underdog to become this unstoppable force.
New York swept the Pittsburgh in the first round, and they could end getting swept in the second. The last time a team won a playoff series being down 0-3 was in 2014 when the Kings did over San Jose. We know a 0-3 hole is almost impossible to come from, but the sport with the highest success ratio is hockey.
The Islanders are now +1500 to win the Stanley Cup with the worst odds of the eight teams remaining in the playoffs. It’s not a surprise considering they are the only team which is one loss away from getting eliminated. The odds are giving New York a 6% chance to come from behind, win the next four and get hot to win the Stanley Cup. It looks like a tough ask.
Game 4 should be the end of the journey for the Islanders. They haven’t played poorly in the series, but they are frustrated because nothing has gone their way. Carolina is just in great shape, and they don’t have any desire to get back to New York. What’s the play? Carolina -139.
