Lakers vs Suns 2019 NBA season Week 4 pick & odds

Lakers Vs. Suns Betting Odds And Expert Pick

If you asked NBA fans during the offseason, not many would’ve said they were looking forward to a Lakers vs. Suns matchup.

Now, roughly ten games into the season, it makes for a very intriguing contest.

Previous Performances Of The Teams

  • The Lakers are coming off a rough loss at home against the Toronto Raptors, where everything that could go wrong went wrong.
  • The Suns, led by their baby-faced star Devin Booker annihilated the Brooklyn Nets at home by 26 points. Even though it’s been only nine games, they’ve beaten two of the best teams in the league (76ers and Clippers) and lost by only one point to the Denver Nuggets.

That’s a heck of a resume for a team that has the youngest roster in the league!

What The NBA Odds Say About The Lakers Vs. Suns Matchup

The Lakers open up as small favorites here, which says more about their strength of schedule and the Suns’ recent form than it does the Lakers’ advantage.

However, this still a championship favorite Lakers team, and the Suns are in the early stages of rebuilding.

It feels as if linemakers have wholly bought into this Suns team, but I have my reservations on how this game will be played out.

Why Bet On the Lakers?

The Lakers are coming off a poor shooting night against the Raptors where undercover agent Danny Green shot 0-5 from 3 pt land.

The Lakers’ record looks daunting, but their strength of schedule has been relatively easy. In addition, they are 2-2 on the road, which points to a team that’s still hammering out their faults.

In their matchup with the Suns, the Lakers have a massive size advantage. Anthony Davis should have his way in the paint, even with the resurgence of Aaron Baynes.

LeBron James Can’t Be Underestimated

It’s been proven by now that LeBron makes the team around him play defense more rigorously, but this is quite the surprise.

The Lakers have the best defensive rating in the league and the third-best net rating (offensive rating – defensive rating).

It’ll be interesting to see if the young Phoenix offense can crack through this defensive juggernaut.

Why Bet On the Suns?

Well, well, well… This is a pleasant surprise.

A team where analysts were ripping on them for making terrible offseason trades is now 6-3 and looking like a possible playoff team.

The Suns were always known for their incredibly high pace of play, but they were inefficient with their shots.

Devin Booker used to chuck 30 shots, but now is looking more like a distributor when needed due to the influence of Ricky Rubio.

How Will The Suns Defense Go Without Ayton?

It’s unlucky that their star center DeAndre Ayton was suspended for 25 games because this would’ve been a fantastic matchup with Anthony Davis.

Regardless, Phoenix still owns the 4th best offensive rating in the league and the 4th best net rating right behind the Lakers.

Phoenix’s downfall this game will have to be in the paint. They will struggle to contain AD and LeBron inside, which will lead to Baynes racking up early fouls.

Devin Booker gets a tough individual matchup with Danny Green, which isn’t a pretty outlook for their highest scorer.

Los Angeles Lakers vs. Phoenix Suns NBA Prediction

Overall, this should be an incredibly fun game to watch for sports fans.

For betting purposes, though, the Lakers should be bigger favorites than -2, even on the road.

They were cold in their last game, but that was against a scrappy Toronto Raptors team that has a proven track record of upsetting good teams.

The Suns have their strengths, and if Devin Booker has a strong shooting night, then this game could stay close. However, I’m more keen on expecting the opposite here.

I’m expecting AD to fill up the box score while Danny Green comes out of his mini “slump.”

Our Pick For Lakers Vs. Suns

Take the Lakers -2 and the moneyline at -135 in this conference matchup.

I am not confident in the total in this game since it could end up as a shootout with both teams playing in transition the whole time.

However, we know the Lakers’ defense is reliable, and if Phoenix starts to fall behind, I can see a final score of 105-90 occurring as well.

It’s best to stay away from the over/under bet this game and just bet the Lakers -2.
