Michigan State Vs. Kansas – NCAA Basketball Opening Day Betting Odds

Michigan State Spartans vs. Kansas Jayhawks Predictions
Kansas is going to a rough patch with a few recruiting scandals tainting a bit of their name. On the court, the Jayhawks are the number one team in the rankings without having to play one game this season. That’s the life of Kansas in 2018 and is not a bad one at all. The Jayhawks opened as a 5-point favorite at Mybookie to beat the Spartans at the College Basketball Champions Classic. The line is currently at 5.5-points. I can’t see the betting line swinging one way or the other before tip-off. 90% of the betting public is taking Kansas not only to win but to cover the spread at home. The game total started 145 points, and it has moved at a fast pace to 154.5.
Kansas reached the Final Four last season, but that’s not good enough when the expectations are all of or nothing. The Jayhawks lost Devonte’ Graham and Sviatoslav Mykhailiuk to the NBA draft, but coach Bill Self knows well how to handle this. That’s why they are loaded once again to make another deep run. The Jayhawks have three Top-40 recruits, including Quentin Grimes who is a must-watch kid. Devon Dotson and Lagerald Vick are the other two names you need to know. This is the first time since 2009, where Kansas is the AP No.1 ranked team entering the season.
The rotation is filled with top talent. Junior Center Udoka Azubuike, from Nigeria, is coming back from another season after shooting 77.0% from the field last year while adding 7.0 rebounds. He’s a 7’’1 freak of nature who will get a lot more minutes and a more significant impact on his second year with the team. Michigan’s loss to Syracuse in the March Madness’ second round was a bitter one. It ended their run way too early. That’s why is no surprise a few of their biggest names decided to come back for another shot with the team. Power forward Nick Ward was the first one to take out his name out of the NBA draft conversation. He will be teamed up with Cassius Winston, who led the Big Ten in three points a year ago and also shooter senior Matt McQuaid.
The one thing the Spartans have going their way in this first match is experience against youth. Michigan State is battled tested while Kansas is perhaps a little of wondering. Last season Kansas dropped the hammer beating the Spartans 90-70 while covering as a 7.5-point spread. This time the oddsmakers are asking to cover a smaller number. There is a reason all this hype is going Kansas’ way. They are too talented to waste a preseason number one seeding in the first game of the season. What’s the play? Kansas -5.5.
