Michigan Vs. Michigan State – College Football Week 8 Picks
Every time Michigan play one its rivals, either Ohio State or Michigan State it comes up head coach Jim Harbaugh’s awful record against them. So, let’s get it out of the way right now. Yes, Harbaugh is a 1-5 against those rivals, and he must win this game if he wants to change the narrative. The betting line opened with the Wolverines as 6.5-point favorites on the road. It dropped to 5-points at some point, but it quickly returned to its normal touchdown to 6.5-point ratio. The most I anticipate the betting line to move again is half a point before kickoff. The game total opened at 45.5 points, and it has settled at 41.
Michigan can’t lose this game. It’s too big for them, for their coach and for the program’s option to sneak into the College Football playoffs Final Four. Let’s give credit to Harbaugh. He has done an excellent job since losing the opener against Notre Dame. The Wolverines have won six straight including four against Big Ten opponents. The only game that it was close during that span was against Northwestern. After that, they have managed to put together a few blowouts. Last weekend they covered as 9.5-point favorites against Wisconsin in the 38-13 win.

Yet, Harbaugh and the Wolverines are up for a huge challenge this weekend. The Spartans are coming off 21-17 upset win over Penn State, you know, because football happens. Michigan State coach Mark Dantonio has a knack of leading his team to win games that they shouldn’t. Dantonio outcoached Penn State’s James Franklin last week, and he has done it in the past against Jim Harbaugh.
There isn’t anything, in particular, the Spartan do well, except being coachable. They do have the upper hand in the series, winning seven of the last nine games against Michigan. Last season, they upset the Wolverines in Ann Arbor 14-10 in one of those contest where Dantonio just proved he owns Michigan. Since 2006 when he became the coach of Michigan State, Dantonio is 8-3 against the Wolverines. He will plan to slow down the pace of the game. Make this contest an ugly one, and win it at the end. Michigan looks better and healthier, but I don’t trust them going on the road to cover as a touchdown favorite. Take the points. What’s the play? Michigan State +7.
