Unfortunately, we didn’t get a win last night with the Rays as they lost 7-4. There’s a full slate of games tonight. Let’s get back in the win column.
Arizona Diamondbacks – Z. Greinke -110 at Colorado Rockies – G. Marquez -110 Total: 11 runs
The D-Backs head to Coors Field to take on the Rockies in a three-game series that begins Tuesday night. This series has significant implications as Arizona is just one game back of the Rockies who currently lead the NL West.
Greinke has turned around his career with the Diamondbacks after a subpar year last season. He has eight wins so far, a 3.00 ERA, and a whopping 104 strikeouts in 90 innings pitched. He’s coming off one of his worst outings of the year with after giving up five earned runs against the Tigers on June 13.
Marquez has been a surprise this year for the Rockies. He’s managed a 4.19 ERA over 53 innings but has a stroke 8.55 K/9. He’s had two games against Arizona this season. He struck out 8 in six scoreless innings at Chase Field on April 30. However, he gave up five runs in six innings on May 5.
Three hasn’t been much movement on the odds since opening. The Rockies are a narrow favorite at most sportsbooks, with both sides priced around -110 or lower. The total is the highest of the slate with 11 runs and is juiced on the over on most betting sites.
The fact that the Rockies are favored at most sites should tell you a lot about Coors Field and Greinke’s chances tonight. Even the best get beat up Coors, and he is no exception. Offensively, the Rockies are one of the better teams in the league.
In my mind, Marquez is also a guy who is a bit underrated. Other than a high walk rate, the guy has the makings of a potential ace. He’s got the velocity and the strikeout rate, and I think he will give Arizona hitters trouble tonight.
