MLB Betting 6-22-17 – Free Picks
We had the day off yesterday but managed to grab another victory with the Rockies getting a victory over the Diamondbacks on Tuesday. Today is a smaller slate, but I have a great play for tonight’s late game.
Detroit Tigers – D. Norris (L) +110 at Seattle Mariners – Andrew Moore (-130) Total: 9.5 Runs
Detroit will try to salvage a game against the Mariners in this series after dropping their first three contests in Seattle. The Tigers are not out of the playoff hunt entirely, but they’re in trouble with a 32-39 record. Seattle is even at 37-37, far behind the Astros in the AL West, but still in hunt for an AL Wild Card spot.
Detroit throws southpaw, Daniel Norris, to avoid the sweep. He has won his last two outings, including six strong innings against the Rays last time out. His still has a mediocre 4.42 ERA on the season, however.
Andrew Moore will make his MLB debut tonight after being called up to replace Yovani Gallardo. He’s a top prospect in Seattle’s system. His minor league line so far this year between AAA and AA is 4-3 with a 2.72 ERA.
There hasn’t been much movement on this game. The Mariners opened at -125 at most sportsbooks and are around that number or at -130. Betting action is about 50/50 on both sides.
This game stood out as a betting opportunity once Gallardo got pulled from his start. Andrew Moore is without a doubt a talented pitching prospect, but let’s not forget he’s facing a veteran lineup tonight. His strikeout rate in the minors isn’t elite and his xFIP suggests that he was benefitting from some luck.
There’s a bit to like about Norris, as well. He’s pitched extremely well the last two times out and the Mariners have struggled against left-handers for several years now. They’ve gotten a little better this season, but most of their key bats are not good at hitting lefties.
