With the second half of the baseball season in full-swing, we’re back with some more picks to start the week. There’s one afternoon game today, but after that, we have a full night slate. Check back during the week for more free picks.
The Indians head to San Francisco to take on the Giants in a three-game interleague series. Cleveland is first in the AL Central and is fighting off both the Twins and Royals in the division as we get closer to the postseason. San Francisco has long been out of the playoff race. They’re in full rebuilding mode and have dealt with many injuries this season.
Cleveland will roll with Josh Tomlin tonight against a lackluster Giants’ offense. Tomlin has not been good this season. He has a 5.90 ERA to go with a 5-9 mark on the year. In four interleague starts this year, he’s been terrible, sporting a 2-2 record with a 6.26 ERA.
San Francisco will counter with a lefty, Matt Moore. Moore has also been subpar this season. He has a 6.04 ERA on the year. However, he’s pitched considerably better at AT&T Park compared to an awful 7.61 ERA on the road.
Tomlin and the Indians are receiving the clear majority of wagers so far. The line has not moved much off the opener of Cleveland -122. The total opened at 8.5 runs and is juiced on the under at most sportsbooks.
I expect the total in this game to drop to 8 runs. It’s already at 8.5 -120 at BetOnline as of this writing. The game sets up well for both Tomlin and Moore. Tomlin is facing a weak offense in a hitter’s park, and Moore has been much better at home compared to on the road.
The Indians also have not been especially strong against left-handers this season. They’re hitting close to the same clip regarding batting average, (.259 versus .260) but have hit for substantially less power. Both offenses should struggle in this one.
