MLB Betting 7-28-17 – Free Picks
We nailed Wednesday’s pick with Aaron Nola and the Phillies before taking yesterday off. We’re back tonight with a full slate of Friday night baseball on tap.
Colorado Rockies – G. Marquez +127 at Washington Nationals – T. Roark -137 Total: 9 runs
The Rockies head to St. Louis for a weekend series that is critical for both teams. Colorado is fighting hard for a Wild Card spot in the NL while the Cardinals desperately need some wins, so they don’t fall out of contention in the NL Central.
Marquez has been on fire in his last three starts, winning all three, while throwing 23 strikeouts and just four walks. He has an inconsistent 4.20 ERA on the season, but consider half his starts have come at Coors Field – that makes some sense.
Tanner Roark started the year off terribly, but have been strong in the second half. He still has a 4.83 ERA on the season but has two wins in his last four starts with a 2.50 ERA. His last outing against Arizona was his best. He threw seven innings of two-run ball with 11 strikeouts.
Bettors have been heavy on the Nationals, but that has seen the line go in the other direction. Washington opened at -142 and has moved to -137 or lower at most sportsbooks. The total opened at 9.5 runs and has moved to 9 runs across the board.
Marquez continues to be underrated by oddsmakers in my mind. He hasn’t even been that bad at Coors Field and has been pitching lights out now. The Nationals lineup is tough, but when a pitcher is dominating, ballpark and lineup are a lot less important. If he has his good stuff, he should prevail.
There’s little reason to think he won’t, tonight. Roark has pitched well too, but Colorado bats have hit him hard over a decent sample. Take the excellent price and root for the underdog tonight in Washington.
