Two of the most popular and historic franchises in the NBA are struggling mightily this season. The Bulls head to Madison Square Garden to take on the Knicks, in a matchup that both teams are desperate for a win.
Chicago sits on the outside of the playoff picture in the East, but just narrowly. Their record fell to 19-20 after losing to the Wizards in Washington on Tuesday, 99-101. The team was without Dwayne Wade, along with Jimmy Butler and Nikola Mirotic in that contest. Wade will be back tonight, but the bench will still be vitally important with Butler and Mirotic both sitting out due to illness.
After much offseason hype, the Knicks have been a flop so far, this season. They have a 17-22 record, putting them in the 12th spot in the East and firmly out of the playoff picture as things stand as of now. The Knicks are coming off a loss last night at Philadelphia.
The Knicks opened as -2.5 favorites in this contest, but that has moved to -3.5 across the board. Betting action has been mostly even between the two sides, but slightly in favor of the Bulls.
This is an excellent spot for the Knicks that are now finally healthy to take care of a shorthanded Bulls’ squad. All the controversy surrounding Derek Rose, seems to have rallied this team around each other and not helped them implode. It also helped that Rose returned last night and played well.
The back-to-back shouldn’t hurt a Knicks team that is still relatively young. Chicago is still playing some of the worst basketball around the home crowd hasn’t given up on the NYK just yet. New York should be ready to play tonight in primetime.
Pick: Knicks -3.5
Dallas Mavericks at Phoenix Suns +2 Total: 206.5
When the Mavericks travel to Phoenix tonight, we won’t be seeing the best the Western Conference offers. In fact, we will be seeing two of the worst teams in the entire league faceoff.
While Dallas has shown flashes of strong play, that hasn’t translated into the win column. The Mavs are 15th in the Western Conference with a 11-27 mark. They’ve lost three straight games, including a 92-101 defeat at Minnesota on Monday.
It hasn’t been much better for Phoenix, who are just a game better than Dallas in the standings. The Suns are well-rested after last playing Sunday against the defending champion, Cleveland Cavaliers. The Suns played a competitive game, but ultimately fell 120-116.
This game has seen some reverse line movement. The Suns originally opened as -1 favorites. However, the odds have shifted to Dallas, despite most of the betting action coming on Phoenix. The Mavericks are now -2 favorites.
We’re not about to go against reverse line movement this obvious. There’s plenty of on-court reasons to like the Mavericks here as well. They continue to put together solid performances against poor teams and are giving a max effort each night under veteran coach, Rick Carlisle.
Pick: Mavericks -2
