The Kings head to Cleveland to take on the reigning defending champion, Cleveland Cavaliers. The Cavs have not played their best basketball lately as they look to break out of a slump at the Quicken Loans Arena.
Sacramento beat the Detroit Pistons to end a five-game slide on Monday Night. The win came at Auburn Hills, with the Kings in the middle of an East Coast road trip that began on Friday at Memphis.
The Kings aren’t out of playoff contention in the West but do have an uphill battle ahead in the tougher of the two conferences. Currently, they’re 11th in the conference with a 17-27 record.
Cleveland has been playing some mediocre basketball lately, but they are still first in the Eastern Conference with a 30-13 record. However, as of late, they have lost three out of their last four games, including a 124-122 defeat at New Orleans on Monday, despite the Pelicans missing All-Star forward, Anthony Davis.
Cleveland opened as a large -11 favorite in this one. The odds from there haven’t moved off that number at most sportsbooks, despite the Cavaliers getting over 80 percent of all wagers so far. The total has moved slightly off the opener of 215 and is now at 214.5 almost across the board.
This is as about as good as a “get-right” spot for Cleveland all season. Yes, they’ve been playing poorly as of late, but the Kings are far from a good basketball team. They also lost second-leading scorer, Rudy Gay, to a season-ending injury.
The Cavs are especially good at home, where they have a 19-4 record compared to an 11-9 mark on the road. This one is likely to move the past -11 number before tip, so I suggest jumping on this one early if you like Cleveland to cover.
Pick: Cavaliers -11
Miami Heat at Brooklyn Nets +4 Total: 214.5
This one probably won’t draw a lot of viewers, but it provides us with an excellent betting opportunity. The Nets look to break a losing streak at home while the Heat want to continue their recent hot run.
Miami has won four games in a row and is playing some of their best basketball of the season. They’re still far out of the playoff race in the East, with a 15-30 record, but they have plenty of potential as we head into next season. They are coming off their biggest win of the season on Monday night, a 105-102 victory over the visiting Golden State Warriors.
There aren’t many positives to talk about when it comes to Brooklyn. They’re the worst team in the NBA by a fair margin. They have just one win in their last eight games and are coming off an 112-86 defeat against the visiting Spurs on Monday.
Betting action has favored the Heat, which opened as -4 favorites. However, the odds at many sportsbooks have moved to -3.5. The total opened at 213.5 but has moved to 214.5.
This is a let-down spot for the Heat, who are coming off a standout win against the Warriors. Now, they must travel on the road to take on the Nets. Brooklyn is a weak team, but the Heat don’t have much business being road favorites over any team in the league.
They may not get to 20 wins this season, but in this spot, getting points against a team that isn’t much better than them and being at home – I’ll take them every time.
Pick: Nets +4
