Minnesota Timberwolves +2 (-115) at San Antonio Spurs -2 (-105) Total: 218.5
I hate being this “obvious” when it comes to picking games, but with Kawhi and Parker out – I think you could make the case that Minnesota should be favored. I realize it’s in San Antonio and it’s opening night in their building, but the Timberwolves see to have a huge advantage with this matchup. A few beat writers I read were speculating that Rudy Gay may fill Kawhi’s role tonight, yeah right.
The betting line opened at -3 in favor of the Spurs. Betting action has been mostly split, but the number has gone to -2. So, this isn’t some public side, but it appears the bigger bets have come in on the Wolves so far.
Minnesota isn’t the deepest team, but they’re loaded when it comes to talent in their starting lineup. The Spurs always seem to pull out victories with lesser personnel and when they’re afflicted with injuries, but I think the talent on the other side of the ball wins tonight.
Denver Nuggets +2 (-105) at Utah Jazz -2 (-115) Total: 205.5
The Nuggets added Paul Millsap in the offseason and have plenty of hype going into the year. I think they will make some noise in the West, but they’re a bit overvalued so far against a Utah team that is underrated, as well.
These teams are polar opposites in play styles, but Utah’s defense and grind it out approach shouldn’t be discounted. They also match up well against the Nuggets that rely on their frontcourt for scoring and will have to go through Gobert. Utah should flow a bit more on offense with Rubio at the helm, as well.
The odds haven’t moved since opening at Jazz -2. Bettors are favoring the Utah slightly, but not by a large margin. I think they increase their advantage in this one before tip-off.
