Phoenix Suns at Cleveland Cavaliers -12.5 Total: 219

The Suns travel to Cleveland to take on a Cavaliers’ team that is going through one of their worst stretches of the season.

Phoenix isn’t a good basketball team by any stretch, but they have bene playing better lately in the sense that they are keeping games closer. They have lost three out of their last four games, including a 106-101 defeat against the visiting Utah Jazz on Monday.

The Suns have one of the worst records in the NBA at 13-28. That’s last in the Western Conference and just ahead of the Heat and Nets for the worst record in the league. They’re far out of postseason contention.

Cleveland is still the top team in the Eastern Conference with a 29-11 record, but have played poorly recently, at least, per their high standards. The Cavaliers have lost three out of their last four games.

They faced off against the reigning Western Conference Champion, Golden State Warriors on Monday Night and we’re beaten badly in a 126-91 blowout at Oracle Arena.

The Cavs played at Phoenix about two weeks ago, in a Jan. 8th meeting. They won a high scoring affair 120-116.

The odds opened with the Cavaliers as -11.5 favorites. It moved quickly in the early morning hours to -12.5 for the home team.

This is a fantastic spot for the Cavaliers to beat up on a weak team in their building after coming off a tough Western Conference road trip. The Suns are abysmal on the road, holding a 5-16 record away from home.

This is an eruption spot for a Cleveland team that eager to avenge their loss to the Warriors on Monday.

Pick: Cavaliers -12.5

Denver Nuggets at San Antonio Spurs -12 Total: 221.5

The Nuggets have been playing some fantastic basketball lately, but head into a tough matchup tonight against the buzzsaw that is the San Antonio Spurs in the Western Conference.

Denver has won three straight games, including a 127-121 defeat of the Los Angeles Lakers at Staples Center on Tuesday. The wins have improved their record to 17-23. As of today, the Nuggets would get the final playoff spot in the West as the 8th seed.

The Spurs have the second-best record in the NBA with a 32-9 mark, just behind the Golden State Warriors. However, like Cleveland, they’re playing some subpar basketball as of late. They’re just 2-2 in their last four games but are coming off a 122-114 victory against the visiting Timberwolves on Tuesday evening.

The Spurs opened at -11.5, but have moved to -12 at just about every bookmaker online. Betting action has been heavy on San Antonio, with 70 percent of wagers coming in on the Spurs.

I’m not used to writing up large favorites, but this is another spot where I think the Spurs will unleash hell on an inferior opponent. Let’s remember how strong they are at home and how big of a mismatch this is against the Nuggets.

Denver is playing well as of late. That’s true, but let’s consider their opponents. Their three-game win streak has come against the Pacers, Magic, and Lakers. All those teams have a record below .500 and Orlando, and L.A. are among the two worst teams in the league.

Lay the points with the home team.

Pick: Spurs -12
