The Thunder head to South Beach as they look to continue their winning streak. OKC will go for their fourth straight win against the Heat, after defeating the Minnesota Timberwolves on Sunday 112-100 to move their record to 19-12 on the year. Russell Westbrook, the league’s leading scorer, added 31 points, 15 assists, and seven boards, in just 32 minutes of action.
The Heat have been one of the NBA’s most disappointing teams this season. They have lost four out of their last five games, including a 91-87 defeat at New Orleans on December 23rd. Their 10-21 record is the third-worst in the Eastern Conference, behind only the Nets and the 76ers.
The Thunder opened as -2 favorites in this one. After heavy betting action on the Oklahoma City, the odds have moved to -3 at most sportsbooks. The total has risen to 208.5, after opening at 206 points.
This one seems too easy and is not typically where I like to put my money down, but this is a big mismatch for the Heat. They are well-rested, but OKC isn’t coming off a game last night. They’re a much better team and shouldn’t have any trouble dispatching a weak Miami squad.
Pick: Thunder -3
Houston Rockets at Dallas Mavericks +6.5 Total: 210.5
Houston heads to Dallas as they look for their fourth win in the season-long series between their division rivals. Another win for the Rockets and they would sweep the season series against their in-state rivals.
The Rockets are one of the best teams in the West. They currently hold a 23-9 record, which is good enough for third place in the conference. They are coming off a 131-115 home win against the Phoenix Suns last night. James Harden notched a double-double in the win, scoring 32 points and dishing out 12 assists.
The Mavericks also played last night. Their record fell to 9-22 after a tough 111-104 loss to the Pelicans in New Orleans. However, Dallas has played better as of late, winning three out of their last five games.
Bettors are favoring the Rockets heavily so far, but the odds haven’t moved off the opening number of Rockets -6.5. The total has moved from 209 to 210.5 at most sportsbooks.
The Mavericks are a tough team to place your hard-earned money on, but they have been a lot better as of late. They seem to be gelling as a team now, and their improved play as of late isn’t a fluke. Remember, this is a well-coached team that historically played well at home.
Both teams are coming off games last night, but Dallas is the one at home getting points. I wouldn’t be shocked to see them win this game outright. Take the points with the home squad.
Pick: Mavericks +6.5
