Orlando Magic at Charlotte Hornets -6.5 Total: 201
The Magic head to North Carolina in hopes of ending a three-game losing streak against the Hornets. They were beaten badly on Tuesday night against the visiting Celtics, losing 117-87 in a game that wasn’t close in the second half. However, Orlando is still much in the playoff hunt in the East. They’re 11th in the conference with a 10-13 record.
Charlotte has been one of the biggest surprises this season. They’ve been strong defensively, which propelled them to a win on Wednesday night against the visiting Pistons 87-77. They are fourth in the Eastern Conference a 13-9 record.
The odds opened with the Hornets -7, but quickly moved to -6.5 shortly after. Betting action has been split between the two teams, with a slight edge to the Magic regarding bets being placed.
Orlando is a team that has no identity and has had rough stretches on both offense and defense as of late. Their rotations are questionable each night and though they had a nice run on the road where they beat the Spurs, Pistons, and Wizards – that came crashing down with a blowout loss at Boston.
They’re overmatched in this one, and I expect Charlotte to have no issues scoring or defending in this contest.

Pick: Hornets -6.5
The Suns travel to Los Angeles to take on the Lakers at Staples Centre. It’s not one of the most appealing matchups on the slate, but it’s a game that both teams aren’t writing off. These teams don’t have quite the rivalry that they did during the Kobe-Nash years, but there is still some bad blood.
It’s been a rough year in Phoenix, where the Suns have lost five out of their last six games and three straight. Their last defeat came against the visiting Indiana Pacers, where they lost 109-94 on Wednesday evening. The loss dropped their record to 6-16 in the West.
After an excellent start to the season, the Lakers have begun to falter. L.A. is still in the playoff race, but they have lost their last four games, including a 134-95 blowout at Houston. The defeat put their record at 10-14, which is still 9th in the Western Conference. The Lakers are still banged up at guard, D’Angelo Russell and Nick Young will both miss tonight’s contest.
Los Angeles opened as -3 favorites in this contest, but those odds have moved to L.A. -1.5 at most sportsbooks. This goes contrary to betting action, where the Lakers have seen more than 80 percent of the wagers so far.
As bad as the Suns have played as of late, they may have an advantage on the Lakers in this matchup, due to their injury issues. Phoenix has a nice stable of guards that can score and that’s the area where the L.A. is especially poor defensively. They should also have an advantage on the glass with Alex Len and Tyson Chandler, who are much bigger than Julius Randle and Timothy Mozgov.
Take the points with Phoenix on the road.
Pick: Suns +1.5
