The Rockets travel to Charlotte to take on the Hornets on Thursday night.
Houston took care of Orlando on Tuesday night by a score of 128-104. The Magic took an early lead but were heavily outscored the rest of the game. The win marks the second in a row for the Rockets. Over their last ten contests, they have played .500 basketball.
Houston is currently third in the Western Conference. Their 38-17 record is right up there with the rest of the league, but they still have quite the uphill battle to gain any playoff position. They’re 7.5 games behind the NBA-leading Warriors and 3.5 games behind the second-seeded, San Antonio Spurs in the West.
Charlotte is coming off a much-needed win against the New Jersey Nets on Tuesday evening. They defeated the visitors in a close game, notching an 111-107 victory in a game that went down to the wire. The home win broke a 7-game losing streak losing for the Hornets.
Every game is critical for Charlotte’s playoff hopes as we approach the latter part of the season. They currently sit just outside the playoff picture with a 24-28 record. They’re just a half-game behind the 8th seeded, Detroit Pistons.
Bettors have overwhelmingly favored the Rockets so far. Houston opened at -3, but that has swelled to -4 at most sportsbooks and -4.5 at BetOnline.
Charlotte has played extremely poorly lately, but this is an excellent spot for them to overperform against tough Houston team. They are a defensively sound team at home and have a 16-10 record at the Spectrum Center, compared to a poor 8-18 mark on the road.
The Rockets beat the Hornets last month in Houston, but just by 7 points. The win on Tuesday has hopefully bolstered their confidence. I love them tonight getting +4.5 in a game that they could easily win outright.
Pick: Hornets +4.5
Boston Celtics at Portland Trail Blazers -1.5 Total: 219.5
The Celtics head to Portland to take on Trail Blazers at the Moda Center.
Boston is coming off a rough loss last night at Sacramento. The Celtics were defeated 108-92, despite the Kings being without All-Star forward, DeMarcus Cousins. The defeat broke a 7-game win streak for the Celtics.
Boston is still in the driver’s seat in the Eastern Conference, however. Their 33-19 record is second in the conference. They’re only 3.5 games behind the Cavaliers, which have played some terrible basketball as of late. They’re certainly within striking distance of the top seed.
Portland defeated the Mavericks in Dallas by a score of 114-113 on Tuesday night. The victory broke a two-game losing streak for Portland. They have played up and down basketball for much of the season, but are on the cusp of a playoff position.
With a 23-30 record, the Blazers are just a half-game behind the Denver Nuggets in the West for the 8th seed.
The game originally opened at a pk. Action on both sides has been relatively even. The market has moved to favor Portland. The Trail Blazers are -1.5 across the board currently. The total opened at 220.5 has stayed around that number or lower, despite 60 percent of wagers coming in on the over.
The under makes the most sense to me in this game. Both offenses have struggled a bit in their past few games, and the Blazers defense has been almost five full points better at home compared to on the road. Boston is also coming off a game last night where their starters played late into the game.
Pick: Under 220
