Golden State Warriors at Washington Wizards +6.5 Total: 229.5

After a game, last night in Philadelphia, the NBA-leading Golden State Warriors travel to the Verizon Center to take on the Wizards.

The Warriors took care of the Philadelphia 76ers last night, winning 119-108. The game was close for much of the first half, but Golden State pulled away late to win handily. They’re playing excellent basketball as of late, winning four straight games and posting an 8-2 mark over their last ten games.

The win improved their record to 50-9. The Warriors have the league’s best record by a considerable margin and are first in the Western Conference. They currently lead the second-place Spurs by 4.5 games.

Despite adding several key players at the deadline, the Wizards have struggled after the All-Star break. They’ve lost their last two games, most recently, a 102-92 home loss to the Utah Jazz.

Washington has basically assured themselves a playoff spot, but with their record falling to 34-23, they’ve fallen out of the third spot in the East and are now behind the Toronto Raptors by a half game. Tonight’s game will be the first time the Wizards have faced the Warriors this season.

Betting Action

Bettors have been heavy on the Warriors since the odds opened with the road team as -7 favorites’. However, despite 70 percent of wagers coming in on Golden State, the odds have shifted the other direction. At many sportsbooks, the line is still at -7, but most top sportsbooks have the line at Warriors -6.5 as of this writing.

The Warriors are always a tough team to bet against, but this is a good spot for Washington. The line has moved opposite of public betting action, giving us some reverse line movement. Let’s also not forget that Golden State did play last night, in a game that was a lot closer than expected.

Washington has a ton of talent, and they’re one of the best teams in the East on their home floor, going 24-8 at the Verizon Center, but just 10-15 on the road. They’ve come out in the second half not mentally prepared so far, but haven’t played since Sunday. I’ll take the points, and I think there is a good chance they win this one outright.

Pick: Wizards +6.5

Denver Nuggets at Chicago Bulls -3 Total: 222

The Nuggets travel to the Windy City to take on the Bulls as they look to cure their road woes. Chicago hopes to extend their streak of four straight wins to five games.

For Denver, every game in the final month and a half is critical. At 26-33, they’re still in the eighth spot in the Western Conference but have many tying behind them vying for the same spot. The Nuggets are 1-1 since coming out of the break, with their last game coming on Sunday, a 105-98 away loss at Memphis.

Chicago is playing their best basketball of the season. They’re now in the playoff with a 30-29 record, but still need to play well down the stretch to assure a postseason berth. They’re currently in the seventh spot in the East and have a two-game lead over the Pistons in the eighth spot.

The Bulls have won five straight games, including a blowout victory on Feb. 25th, against the visiting Cleveland Cavaliers. However, it is worth noting that Cleveland did not have LeBron James in that matchup.

Betting Odds

The Bulls opened as a -4.5 favorite in this one. They’ve gotten most of the action in this game, but the line has headed in the other direction. The Bulls are -3 now at most online sportsbooks.

Chicago is playing some excellent basketball lately, but the Nuggets are a team that is just as talented and has every reason to play hard on the road. They’re an excellent rebounding team that excels in paint scoring, two areas where the Bulls struggle. Those struggles may be amplified with their best rebounder, in Taj Gibson, being sidelined.

Denver doesn’t have any superstar players, except perhaps, the emerging, Nikola Jokic, but they have some of the best depth in the league. I didn’t end up getting +4, but there’s a good chance this one keeps moving. Grab it at +3 and lay the points with the road dog.

Pick: Nuggets +3
