Golden State Warriors at Chicago Bulls +7 Total: 219
The Warriors, now without Kevin Durant, travel to the Windy City to take on the Chicago Bulls.
Golden State still leads the league in record at 50-10, but they’ve played poorly (for their standards) over the past ten games. They’ve gone 7-3 in those contests, including an 112-108 defeat at Washington on Tuesday night.
Even with Durant gone for at least four weeks, the Warriors are still the NBA’s best team. They would have to drop off quite a bit to lose the top seed in the Western Conference. Currently, they have a 3.5 game lead of the second-place, San Antonio Spurs.
The Chicago Bulls have had one heck of an up and down season. After being blown out by the Nuggets on Tuesday night by a score of 125-107, they sit at the .500 mark on the season with a 30-30 record.
Chicago currently sits in the seventh spot in the East and 2.5 games ahead of the Pistons for the final playoff spot. Despite their loss to start the second half, the Bulls have played especially well in recent weeks. Until Tuesday’s defeat, they had won four straight games.
Bettors have been heavy on the Warriors since the odds opened. They opened as a -6 favorite, but the line has now moved to -7.5 at most sportsbooks. Betting action has been heavy on Golden State, with over 85 percent of wagers coming in on the Dubs.
There’s some appeal here for the Bulls. They’re playing well as of late, and they’re at home, but I can’t see Golden State coming out and not playing inspired tonight.
Durant’s loss is meaningful, but let’s not forget this team was one game away from winning the NBA finals last year without him. He’s an elite player, but the Warriors aren’t a mid-level team without him. They’re still an elite team in the league and arguably still the favorite to win the NBA title even if he doesn’t return this year.
I am sure the Bulls won’t lay down for this one, but Golden State will be amped up to prove that they can hold their own, even without one of their superstars. Lay the points with the road team.
Pick: Warriors -7.5
Oklahoma City Thunder at Portland Trail Blazers -1 Total: 219.5
As they fight for playoff position, the Thunder have played well out of the break. They’ve won three straight games, including a tight 106-109 victory over the visiting Jazz on Tuesday night.
The win improved their record to 35-25. OKC has quite the lead on the eighth-place Nuggets, but they are fighting for playoff positions with several teams. A win tonight would put them in a tie with the Grizzlies for the sixth spot.
Portland is out of the playoff picture as it currently stands, but they do have an outside shot of reaching the postseason with a strong finish to the end of the season. However, they’ve won just three out of their last ten games.
The Blazers are coming off a 120-113 Tuesday defeat at Detroit. They also lost their previous game against the Raptors on Sunday. At 24-35, they’re in 11th place in the West and currently three games behind the Nuggets for the final playoff spot in the conference.
The odds opened with Portland as -1.5 home favorites’. Since opening, action has been heavy on Oklahoma City, with about 80 percent of wagers coming in on the road team. Since opening, the odds have moved in favor of the Thunder. As of this writing, it’s at Trail Blazers -1 at just about every sportsbook online.
Oklahoma City is my favorite bet of the evening, and it’s not close. The Thunder are playing better, they’re the better team, and both teams are coming off equal rest. The matchup is also excellent for the Thunder as I expect OKC’s frontcourt to have their way with the Blazers and crush them when it comes to points in the point and boards.
Victor Oladipo is a game-time decision for tonight’s tilt after missing the last few contests. He’s inclusion into the starting lineup would be a boost to the Thunder, but I like them regardless. He’s probably around 50/50 to make his return this evening, as he was a game-time decision for their past two games.
Get on this one early, as the line will likely move.
Pick: Thunder +1
