Milwaukee Bucks at Philadelphia +4.5 Total: 212.5
Milwaukee is on the outside looking in for a playoff spot, but they still have a shot in the Eastern Conference. It also appears, that they are peaking at the right time and are finally fully healthy. Khris Middleton, an elite defender, and capable scorer returned to the line last week.
He scored 24 points against the Raptors on Saturday. The Bucks won that game by a score of 101-94. The victory pushed their record to 28-33 on the year. They’re just 1.5 games behind the Pistons for the 8th and final playoff spot.
The 76ers have a 23-39 record, but this is easily their best season in many years. However, they’re still beat up badly on the injury front. Joel Embiid was ruled out for the rest of the season, but the young Sixer is still probably going to win, Rookie of the Year.
Philadelphia is coming off a blowout loss to the Pistons on Saturday. They were beaten severely, by a score of 136-106. They’re not mathematically out of playoff contention just yet but would need an unprecedented run to make the postseason at this point.
Milwaukee opened as a -3-road favorite in this contest. Betting action has gone on the Bucks so far. About 60 percent of wagers have come in on Milwaukee, which has shifted the odds to Bucks -4.5 at most sportsbooks. However, some have moved to -5 as of this writing.
I bet on the Sixers after they lost Embiid for a few games, thinking they would try to prove that they could win without him. That momentary burst kept them in games, but now, their roster is one of the worst in the league.
The Bucks can score from any part of the floor, and they should have no issues having their way with the Sixers. They have matchup advantages at nearly every position, and they’re fighting for a playoff spot. Lay the points with the road team.
Pick: Bucks -4.5
Miami Heat at Cleveland Cavaliers -8.5 Total: 215.5
LeBron James and Kyrie Irving sat out of Saturday’s loss to the Heat in Miami but will be back in the lineup as they head to Cleveland tonight.
Cleveland has stumbled a bit in the past month or so, but they’re still one of the best teams in NBA and still lead the Eastern Conference with 41-19 record. However, they have lost two out of their last three games, including Saturday’s contest.
Miami has a 29-34 record on the year and are just 1.5 games behind the Pistons for the final playoff spot in the East. Their record is identical to the Milwaukee Bucks going into Friday’s action. Both teams are in must-win mode every night until the season ends.
Cleveland opened at -7.5 and swelled to -9 before coming down to -8. That is where the odds stand now across the board at online sportsbooks. So far, nearly 80 percent of all betting action has been placed on the Cavaliers.
Some bettors may look to this spot as an “instant revenge” scenario, where the Cavaliers will be amped up to play this game after losing to them last week. However, I’m not sure I see it that way.
Cleveland has not played their best basketball as of late while the Heat have been playing better and better as the year progresses. They’re in nearly every game until the final possession and have a strong road record considering their total number of wins and losses. They’re 6-4 over their last ten games, and I expect them to be in this one until the final whistle.
Pick: Heat +8.5
