Washington Wizards at Phoenix Suns -4.5 Total: 226.5
Washington started a bit uneven after the All-Star break, losing their first two games. However, they rebounded with a win against the Warriors and have now gone 3-1 since losing their first two games back.
They last played on Sunday, winning narrowly against the visiting Orlando Magic. The victory pushed the Wizards’ record to 37-24, which is currently third in the Eastern Conference. Washington is a single game better than the fourth-place, Raptors, and are 1.5 games behind the second-place, Celtics.
After coach Earl Watson decided to change the starting lineup, the Suns have rattled off three straight victories. Phoenix is coming off a 109-106 win against the visiting Celtics on Sunday.
The Suns have some young talent and a potentially bright future in the league, but they’re not going to make the postseason this year. Their upset of the Celtics on Sunday moved their record to a meager 21-42. They’re second-to-last in the West, with only the L.A. Lakers behind them in the standings.
Washington opened this one as a -3.5-road favorite. Since that time, the market has moved for the Wizards. As of this writing, they are -4.5 favorites. Almost 90 percent of action has come in on Washington since the odds opened.
The Wizards are my favorite play today. I did manage to get the line at -3.5 before the move to -4.5, but there is still value on the line as it stands now. It could also continue to move in Washington’s favor, giving bettors an excellent chance to beat the closing line if they take the bet early.
Phoenix is due for a beat down. It’s as simple as that. They have been playing over their heads for the past few games and Washington has a lot to play for in the East. They also have matchup advantages at nearly every position and have a much deeper bench than the Suns. Lay the points on the road.
Pick: Wizards -4.5
