NBA Betting 3-08-17 – Free Picks
It depends on what price you got on last night’s bet if it was a winner. I managed to get Wizards -3.5 and won by a half-point as Washington won in overtime by 4 points. Most bettors likely pushed or lost the bet as the line shifted to -5 as we got closer to game time. Anyway, we are back at it today with a large 11-game slate.

Toronto Raptors at New Orleans Pelicans -2 Total: 203.5
Toronto is coming off a 101-94 loss to the Milwaukee Bucks on Saturday. It’s their third loss in the past two games, after going 3-0 after the break. However, the Raptors are still in good position in the East.
They’re in a tight race for the third playoff spot. With a 37-26 record, they are 1.5 games behind the Wizards for the third spot. They’re almost guaranteed a playoff spot, but the battle for seeding will likely come down to the season’s final days.
After trading for DeMarcus Cousins at the deadline, New Orleans’ fans were counting on making the playoffs in the West, even if that meant in the final 8th spot. Though their schedule has been tough, the Pelicans are 2-6 since acquiring Cousins.
They dropped another game on Monday evening, losing a low-scoring contest to the Utah Jazz on the road. New Orleans has just a small hope of making the postseason at this point. Their 25-39 record is currently good enough for just 12th in the West. They’re four games behind the Nuggets in the 8th spot but will have to stave off three teams ahead of them with better records.
Action has been heavy on the Raptors since they opened at +1.5. The odds have gone the other direction, however, with the Pelicans currently as -2 favorites at most sportsbooks.
This line seems like a “trap,” which is one of the reasons I love it. The Pelicans have not been a good basketball team lately, but the same can be said for the Raptors. Let’s also not forget they lost their All-Star point guard in Kyle Lowry, for what will likely be the rest of the year.
The frontcourt matchup should also play well for New Orleans where they should be able to dominate the boards with Cousins and Davis against undersized Raptors’ bigs. They don’t have a winning record on the road or at home, but they’re far better on their home court. They’re just two games under .500 at the Smoothie King Center, but 12 games under that mark on the road.
Pick: Pelicans -2
New York Knicks at Milwaukee Bucks -5 Total: 211.5
The Bucks welcome the Knicks to town as they look to continue their excellent play.
The Knicks don’t have much of a postseason chance, but there is still some hope if they have a great run to end the season. Currently, they sport a 26-38 record and are 5.5 games behind the Bulls for the final playoff spot in the East.
They’re coming off an 113-105 victory at Orlando on Monday, but before that, they had lost their last two games.
The Bucks have been on a tear lately and have a much better chance to make the playoffs than the Knicks. Khris Middleton’s return to the line has been a huge positive for Milwaukee after he missed much of the season due to injury.
Milwaukee handled the 76ers easily in Philadelphia on Monday Evening. The win was their third straight victory. Coming into tonight’s game, they have a 29-33 record and are just 1.5 games back of the Bulls for the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference.
The odds opened with the Bucks as a -5 favorite. The odds have not moved since opening. So far, about 60 percent of wagers are coming in on Milwaukee.
I am shocked the odds haven’t moved for the Bucks yet, but I think that move is coming. New York hasn’t played terrible basketball lately, and they’re still mathematically in the hunt for a playoff spot, but regardless of their effort level tonight – they’re simply not as good as Milwaukee.
Since Middleton has gotten regular minutes, the Bucks have been on a tear. They blew out the Sixers, beat the Raptors, and took care of the Clippers, by double-digits. They’re a much deeper team than most think and have a strong record at home. I won’t be surprised if they turn this one into a route, early.
Pick: Bucks -5
