Milwaukee Bucks at Memphis Grizzlies -4 Total: 200
Milwaukee is coming off a 102-95 win over Minnesota on Saturday night. Tony Snell had a rare big game, notching 19 points. The Bucks have won six straight with the victory. It improved their overall record to just one game under .500 at 32-33.
Their recent run has gotten them to the eighth spot in the East and into the playoffs, for the time being. They’re just a half-game behind the Pistons for the seventh seed, but just a game ahead of the Heat for the final playoff spot.
On the other side, Memphis is mired in a terrible slump as of late. They are coming off 106-90 loss to the Atlanta Hawks on Saturday evening. The Grizzlies have lost five games straight and are 3-7 over their last ten games.
Memphis is almost certainly going to be in the playoffs, but they have a lot to play for regarding seeding. Their 36-30 record is currently good enough for seventh in the Western Conference. They have a five-game lead on the Nuggets behind them but are just one game behind the Thunder for the sixth spot.
Memphis opened at -3.5, but has moved to -4 across the board as of this writing. Betting action has been about 50/50 between both sides.
Normally, I would like to take at home team looking to rebound like Memphis, but they’ve been playing some awful basketball lately and tonight’s matchup is far from easy for the Grizzlies. Don’t me wrong, they’re an excellent defensive team, but the Bucks are still being underrated by the oddsmakers in my mind.
They’re playing the best basketball in the NBA as of late, even with injuries to bench pieces, Malcolm Brogdon and Mirza Teletovic. However, both players could be back in the lineup tonight.
I can easily bet the +4 as in this one as I think there’s an excellent chance the Bucks win outright.
Pick: Bucks +4
Washington Wizards at Minnesota Timberwolves -1 Total: 214.5
Both the Wizards and Wolves come into this game on a hot streak as Washington heads to Minnesota.
The Wizards are now second in the Eastern Conference and just two games behind the East-leading, Cleveland Cavaliers. They improved their record to 41-24, after winning at Portland on Saturday.
After a rough start after the break, Washington has rebounded in a big way while other top teams in the East have struggled. They are still tied with Boston for the second seed but are playing well enough to earn the top seed in the conference possibly, if Cleveland continues to struggle.
The Timberwolves, once written off early in the year, are back in the playoff hunt after an impressive second half of the season. They have won six out of their last ten contests and are in striking distance to the Nuggets in the West.
Their 27-38 overall mark is still weak, but they’ve managed to narrow the gap to just four games behind Denver. They lost their last game at Milwaukee on Saturday evening.
The odds opened in favor of the Wizards at -1. However, despite heavy betting action on Washington, the line has gone the other way. Minnesota is now a -1 favorite at most sportsbooks, with some dealing -1.5.
There’s no doubting the Wizards as a force in the NBA right now, but I still feel like Minnesota is getting enough credit. Aside from their last on Saturday, they’ve gone 4-2 over their last six games, which include wins against the West’s best teams, like the Jazz and Warriors.
We also have seen reverse line movement in this contest for the Wolves. Minnesota is playing some of the best basketball in the league and is an excellent home team. I’m happy just to have to lay a point tonight.
Pick: Timberwolves -1
