Memphis Grizzlies at New Orleans Pelicans +2 Total: 206.5

The Grizzlies travel south to face the Pelicans in New Orleans tonight.

Memphis is gearing up the playoffs and lately have been in postseason form. They come into tonight’s contest with a four-game winning streak. The Grizzlies are coming off a victory over the San Antonio Spurs on Saturday night.

The win pushed their record to 40-30 on the season. Currently, they are tied for the 6th spot in the Western Conference with an identical record to the Oklahoma City Thunder. Each game will be critical for Memphis as they fight for playoff position in the season’s final weeks.

It’s probably too little, too late, for the Pelicans. They are riding a two-game win streak coming into tonight’s game, but after acquiring DeMarcus Cousins during the All-Star Break – they haven’t done enough to make the postseason.

They’re coming off a win against the visiting Timberwolves on Sunday, but with a 29-41 record, they are still 4.5 games back of the Nuggets for the final playoff spot. They don’t have much of a postseason chance with several teams playing for the same spot ahead of them in the standings.

Betting Action

Betting action opened with the Pelicans at -2. New Orleans briefly moved to -2.5 before going back to -2, which is currently stands at most bookmakers. The Pels have been a favorite of the public so far, with over 60 percent of wagers coming in on New Orleans.

I’m not sure I’m getting all the Pelicans’ love. Yes, they have two elite players and another excellent one in Jrue Holiday – but this team just simply hasn’t been very good, even after getting Cousins.

I’m not saying they won’t “get up” for this game, but their motivation may not be where it needs to be, especially to take on a tough, hard-nosed, defensive team like the Grizzlies. Let’s also not forget that Memphis is a considerably better team. Both regarding overall record and recent play.

Take the points with the road team.

Pick: Pelicans +2

Golden State Warriors at Dallas Mavericks -4.5 Total: 207

The Warriors are searching for their win in a row but will face a Dallas team that is fighting to stay in playoff contention.

After losing Kevin Durant for likely the rest of the regular season, the Warriors dropped a few games before reeling off four straight wins. They will look for their fifth tonight in Dallas, after taking care of Oklahoma City last night on the road.

The Spurs are still 2.5 games back of the Warriors, but Golden State is close to clinching the top seed in the Western Conference. After last evening’s win, their NBA-best overall record is now at 56-14.

The Mavericks are just three games back of the Nuggets for the West’s final playoff spot. Dallas has been playing excellent basketball lately, winning six out of their last ten games. They’re coming off a win at Brooklyn on Sunday.

Dallas’ record sits at 30-39 on the season. Only the Portland Trail Blazers have a better shot of making the postseason going into Tuesday evening, based on the standings. A win tonight for the Mavs would be a massive help to their postseason hopes.

Betting Action

The Warriors opened as a -4.5-road favorite. Despite getting over 85 percent of bets so far, the odds have shifted to Golden State -4 at some sportsbooks. As of this writing, most are sitting at -4.5.

I hate chalky plays like this one, but Golden State makes quite a bit of sense to me tonight. It’s unlikely Steve Kerr tries anything crazy with resting starters, especially with the commissioner sending out a memo to teams and coaches saying that teams will face penalties for not properly notifying the league and other officials.

Yes, they’re coming off a back-to-back. Yes, Dallas has played excellent basketball lately. However, the Warriors finally look to have found their stride. Remember, this team won an NBA Title without Durant on their roster and came within one game of another.

Their bench is weaker this year, but they still have all their core pieces intact. Dallas has stretches where they fail to score and against the Warriors, a stretch like that tonight could end the game before halftime.

If you were lucky enough to get this one at -4, congrats. It looks to be moving to -4.5 at most bookies. The line will likely continue to move. Get on Golden State early for the best price.

Pick: Warriors -4.5
