NBA Betting 3-23-17 – Free Picks
We went 1-1 with yesterday’s picks. Charlotte was able to win and cover against the Magic, but though Wizards beat the Hawks, they did by just four points, failing to cover the -7 spread. We’re back at it today on what is a smaller slate in the NBA. The NCAA Tournament is back in action tonight, and we also have free picks for March Madness.

Toronto Raptors at Miami Heat -4.5 Total: 203.5
The Heat were dead and buried by some fans in the first half of the season, but have rebounded in a big way in the second half. Miami is coming off a win on Tuesday night against the visiting Phoenix Suns.
The Heat have been on a tear recently, winning three out of their last four games and seven out of their last ten. They’re now in prime position to make the postseason with a 35-36 record. That number is good enough for the eighth spot in the East. They currently have a 1.5 game lead over Bulls and Pistons for the final spot.
Heat center, Hassan Whiteside hurt his hand in the victory over the Suns and had to leave the game. However, after receiving 13 stitches, he is probable for tonight’s game and expected to play.
Even with Kyle Lowry out, the Raptors continue to play solid basketball. They’re in the middle of a three-game win streak after beating the Bulls on Tuesday evening. They continue to get contributions from new players on the roster, in addition to leading scorer, DeMarr DeRozan.
The win improved their record to 42-29 on the season. They’re assured a playoff spot, but the final weeks of the season will be critical to seeding. They’re in the fourth spot in the East but are just a single game behind the Wizards in the third spot.
The odds opened with Miami as a -3 favorite. The Heat have gotten the more than 60 percent of wagers so far, which has pushed the odds to -4.5 at most sportsbooks.
Provided Whiteside plays, which all indications are that he will – I love this spot for the Heat. The Raptors are certainly an excellent basketball team, but Ibaka will not suit in this one, which is a huge blow to their frontcourt defense.
Toronto just doesn’t have the bodies to match Miami in the post. The Heat should have free reign in the paint and win the rebounding battle easily. Even if Whiteside doesn’t play, I still like their chances to win this one and cover.
Pick: Heat -4.5
Phoenix Suns at Brooklyn Nets -4 Total: 224.5
The Suns and the Nets aren’t a game that most fans will be tuning in tonight, but there’s a lot to make sense of from a betting perspective.
Phoenix comes into Brooklyn struggling. They’ve lost their last five contests, including a blowout loss to the Heat on Monday. The Suns are far out of playoff contention sporting a 22-49 record. They’re playing for next season.
However, that can be said for the Nets, as well. Brooklyn has the worst record in the NBA at 14-56 but has played better since Jeremy Lin returned from injury a few weeks back. They’ve won three out of their last six games, including a 98-96 victory over the visiting Pistons on Monday evening.
The Nets opened as a -2.5 favorite. Betting action between the two teams has been split for the most part. However, the odds have moved heavily for the Nets. They are -4 as of this writing.
The Suns might be the team in the league right now that is taking the most. They’re not only suffering from a ton of injuries, but they haven’t been playing hard in recent weeks. They aren’t exactly stocked with talent, when fully healthy, either.
Brooklyn’s record is awful, but it’s clear they are the better team, right now. They have a few injury concerns heading into tonight’s game, but I am not worried. They’re playing solid basketball lately and should have no issues dispatching a Suns team that looks like it has completely given up.
Pick: Nets -4
