Cleveland Cavaliers at San Antonio Spurs -4.5 Total: 212
It has not been easy for Cleveland as of late. They have gone just 5-7 since March 4th and are coming off a 127-115 loss against the visiting Wizards on Saturday. Defensively, they have been awful over their last four, giving up over 100 points in every game.
Cleveland’s poor run now has them tied with the Boston Celtics for the 1st overall seed in the Eastern Conference. Sitting at 48-25, they have just a 2.5 game lead over the Washington Wizards. The Raptors aren’t far behind either, at 3.5 games back.
San Antonio doesn’t have the best record in their conference, but they do have the second-best record in all the NBA at 56-16. They’re currently on a four-game winning streak after losing two games before igniting this run. They are second in the Western Conference, only behind the Golden State Warriors in the standings.
The Spurs are coming off a victory against the visiting Knicks on Saturday. Kawhi Leonard won’t likely win MVP due to the legendary seasons by James Harden and Russell Westbrook, but he’s arguably just as deserving. He, once again, led the way for San Antonio against New York, dropping 29 points, grabbing 11 boards and adding two blocks and a steal.
The Spurs opened as a -4.5 favorite. As of this writing, that’s where most sportsbooks have the odds, but many have -115 vig on San Antonio with the -4.5 odds. Some books have already made the move to Spurs -5. Betting action has favored San Antonio so far, with 60 percent of bets coming in on the Spurs.
Cleveland’s season is falling apart in the final weeks. Of course, they certainly aren’t in bad shape. They will likely come away with first or second seed in the East and will have an excellent shot of becoming the Eastern Conference Champions.
With that said, they’re not playing well, right now. Both they and the San Antonio are on the same amount of rest. The Spurs are an excellent defensive team and should have no issues scoring against what has been an abysmal Cavaliers’ defense. Without Tristan Thompson and LeBron out on the floor – they continue to bleed points.
Get this one early as I expect the Spurs to be -6 by the time the game tips off.
Pick: Spurs -4.5
