NBA Consensus Picks – Pacers Vs. Celtics | Betting Odds
Arguably the most exciting series in the Eastern Conference will have the surprising Indiana Pacers taking on the Boston Celtics on Sunday afternoon. The fourth seed against a fifth; separated in the regular season just by one game promise some fireworks. Home court advantage between these two teams was decided by just one game of difference. The edge was on Boston’s side after they beat Indiana just a week ago with a 117-97 result.
Indiana Pacers Vs. Boston Celtics Predictions
MyBookie.ag has the Celtics as a 7-point favorite in the NBA betting spread. The betting line hasn’t moved since it opened. I expect it to move at least half a point up before the tipoff. The guys making the betting lines at MyBookie.ag listed Boston at +1700 to win the NBA title. That gives the Celtics a 6% of implied probability to win the NBA title at the end of the playoffs.Boston opened the regular season back in October at +570 to win it all, but the season didn’t go their way.
Not having home court advantage pass the first round also hurts their chances in a big way. After the Pacers lost Victor Oladipo due to injury, we were all waiting for Indiana just to fold their hand. Not only do they not folded, but they have been one of the biggest surprises of the season. Indiana remains a very long shot to win the NBA title at +7000 with just over 1% chance, but you got to respect their willingness to keep fighting. Any other team loses its star player, and they are likely to quit. Indiana became the team with the best scoring defense in the NBA.
Not long ago giving up over 100-points was not considered a good number, but a lot has changed in the “Golden State Warriors Era.” The season series between these two ended with one win apiece. On every game, the home team won. Two of those four meetings were in the last 15 days, but perhaps the most telling was the meeting a week ago. What separates Boston from Indiana and maybe any other team in the East is their bench.
Gordon Hayward coming as a substitute is an X factor not many teams have an answer to. Indiana’s lineup is about to become very tight from now on. Other than Domantas Sabonis, they don’t have a player that can have the same impact coming off the bench. Pacers’ center Myles Turner was listed as questionable to play during the week. He left Sunday’s game against the Nets after landing awkwardly on his right ankle.
Turner didn’t play against Atlanta in the regular season finale, but some reports say he will be ready to go against Boston. The question is how much that ankle injury will bother him in game one and the rest of the series. I’m taking the Celtics to win game one by eight or more points. I need to see how Indiana handles playing at the TD Garden in playoffs atmosphere and to observe who is going to ask for the ball in crunch time without Oladipo.
