NBA Consensus Picks – Thunder Vs. Trail Blazers

The series between Thunder and Trail Blazers have all the ingredients to be the most fun of the NBA playoffs round one. It has two even teams with two superstars point guards that can’t stand each other. Game two is set to be played on Tuesday night. If you are in the East Coast the tip-off time might be a little late for your taste, but trust me, this series is worth watching. Game one was so much fun, with the Blazers winning 104-99.  Portland covered the spread as three-point favorites with two late free throws. It’s a bummer for those who had OKC +3.

Oklahoma City Thunder Vs. Portland Trail Blazers Predictions

The good news for the Thunder fans it is Oklahoma City played their worst offensive game of the season and lost just by five points. OKC went 5 of 33 from three-point land for a lousy 15% from beyond the arc. To shoot that poorly and still lose by a five-point differential has to give the team a lot of confidence going into game two. The Thunder swept the Blazers during the regular season, which means game one could be seen as a fluke. Portland finally won a playoff game after two straight seasons being swept in the first round.

Even with the win, the Trail Blazers know they need to be better if they want to leave to Oklahoma City with a 2-0 lead. MyBookie.ag has Portland as a 2-point favorite in the spread for game two. The betting line opened with the Blazers as 2.5-point favorites, but some money coming into OKC’s side dropped the line half of a point. If you want to take Oklahoma City to win outright at the money line, they have an implied probability of 48% to win this game at +110. Instead, if you like Portland to go 2-0 without worrying about the spread, you can find them at MyBookie at -130 in the money line. That’s an implied chance to win of 57%.

One key part of this series storyline is the health of playmaker Paul George. He was questionable to play game one with a shoulder injury. In fact, George didn’t practice all week, and his participation was a game-time decision. Even with a banged shoulder he scored 26 points and added ten rebounds in what could only be described as a rough shooting night going 8 of 24 from the field.

Paul George should be better in game two, and I expect Russell Westbrook to be a lot more aggressive as well. OKC won’t shoot that badly two games in a row. The Thunder also allowed Enes Kanter to be a factor with 18 rebounds and 20 points on Sunday. That won’t happen again either. Let’s just say everything that could have gone bad from OKC went the wrong way in game one. I expect the Thunder to even the series out on Tuesday Night.
