NBA Finals Game 5 – Cavaliers at Warriors

The NBA Finals are back in action tonight as the Cavaliers head back to Oakland to take on the Warriors. Golden State has dominated the series so far and has a 3-1 lead going into Game 5. If the Cavaliers should prevail tonight, the series will continue back in Cleveland, and if necessary, a Game 7, on Sunday in Golden State.

Cleveland Cavaliers at Golden State Warriors -8.5 Total: 230.5

Cleveland fights for a chance at Game 6 tonight after winning 137-116 in Game 4. Offensively, they set records with their performance. They scored 49 points in a single quarter and 86 points in a half – both Finals records.

LeBron James led the way with a triple-double with 31 points, ten rebounds, and 11 assists. He now has the most triple-doubles in NBA Finals history. Kyrie Irving also showed up in a big way, scoring 40 points.

The Warriors playoff streak of unbeaten games came to an end with the loss. It’s tough to fault them for playing too poorly. They still put up a tremendous amount of points, but couldn’t match the hot shooting of the Cavaliers.

Betting Action

Golden State opened as a -8.5 favorite in Game 5. About 60 percent of wagers have come in on the Warriors since the odds opened. The total opened at 231 points and had not moved off that number at most sportsbooks. Bettors are favoring the over so far, but just slightly.

Prediction

Many sports gamblers were saying “The NBA is rigged” after Cleveland’s victory in Game 4. They had a fair point that the officiating was poor, but let’s not forget the series was 3-0 heading the game. If the “powers that be” were trying to “rig” the series – the Warriors wouldn’t have ever been up three games to none.

I like Cleveland tonight. I still expect the Warriors to win the game, but the gap between these two teams might be closer than most think. With that said, I could still easily see this series going six games. This one should be close down to the final possession.

Pick: Cavaliers +8.5
