NBA Playoffs 5-22-19 – Free Picks

The Eastern Conference Finals aren’t over just yet as the Celtics took care of the Cavaliers on Sunday evening. It’s good to see that series heating up before what should hopefully be an exciting NBA Finals.

In the West, things appear to be close to over as the Warriors have a 3-0 lead as the Spurs host Game 4 tonight.

Golden State Warriors at San Antonio Spurs +12 Total: 218

The Spurs seemed poised to give the Warriors their first competitive series, but that has fallen by the wayside. They lost 120-108 in Game 3, and Gregg Popovich appears to be out of ideas against the West’s best team.

The series would have been more competitive if the Spurs did not lose Kawhi Leonard. At this point, it would be hard to argue the forward is one of the best two-way players in the league if not, the best.

Leonard is not expected to play tonight. David Lee was also injured in Game 3 and is going to be out tonight with a partially torn patella tendon. We will likely see more of Pau Gasol and David Lee in this evening’s contest.

It’s mostly business as usual for the Warriors. Andre Iguodala did play in Game 3 but was on the floor for just 19 minutes with a sore knee. We can expect the same workload tonight for Iggy and fewer minutes if Golden State blows out the Spurs again. Zaza Pachulia, the player who notoriously took out Leonard, may also miss tonight’s game.

Betting Action

Golden State opened as a -9 favorite on the road. About 70 percent of wagers have come in on the Warriors so far. This has pushed the line to -12 at most sportsbooks. The total has also seen an uptick, despite most bets coming on the under. It opened at 215 points but is now at 218.

Prediction

After the Celtics pulling off a huge upset last night, it’s tempting to consider the moneyline in this one. However, I think there is plenty of value at +12. Popovich isn’t going to throw in the towel.

I traditionally like to take a team that is down 0-2 in Game 3, but this is a similar spot for San Antonio in Game 4. If they’re going to make a real run at a game this series – it will be this one. It’s do or die for them, and while I still don’t expect them to win the game, it should be close in the final minutes.

Pick: Spurs +12
