Cleveland Cavaliers at Boston Celtics +10.5 Total: 216
The Cavaliers hold a commanding 3-1 lead over Boston after defeating them in Game 4. They trailed in the first half but rallied in the second to win 112-99 in Cleveland. LeBron picked up four fouls in the first half of the game.
James wasn’t the hero in Game 4. Instead, his support cast showed up in a big way. Point guard, Kyrie Irving scored 42 points on 15-22 shots, including a stretch in the third quarter where he hit 9 of 10 shots to bring the Cavs back. Kevin Love also hit 17 points and grabbed a playoff-high, 17 rebounds.
With point guard Isiah Thomas out for the rest of the postseason, the Celtics are relying on others to pick up his scoring load. Offensively, they were lights out in the first half, but their shooting came back to reality in the second half. Forward Jaylen Brown is questionable for tonight’s game with a hip pointer. Forward Jae Crowder also strained his groin but is expected to play this evening.
The Cavaliers opened as a -8.5 favorite. They have received over 70 percent of wagers so far, which has pushed the odds to -10 at most sportsbooks. As of this writing, Cleveland is -10.5 at Bovada Sports. Betting action has been mostly even on the total. The number opened at 214.5 points and is now 215.5 or 216, depending on your sportsbook.
I’m going back to the well with Boston tonight. After watching them play in the second half of the last game – it’s hard to place a bet on this team. However, it’s worth considering that the Celtics have played much better at home, especially offensively.
Every team plays better at home than on the road, but the Celtics had a 30-11 record at home during the regular season and have come through in home games throughout the playoffs. Their bench manages to play better, and with Thomas out of the lineup, their defense has improved.
I don’t expect them to pull an upset tonight. The Cavaliers will likely advance to the NBA Finals, but I expect this game to be within single digits when the final buzzer sounds.
