New England Patriots Vs. Baltimore Ravens NFL Week 9 Free Expert Betting Picks And Odds

The New England Patriots are ready for their first real test of the season. The champs will travel to Baltimore to face the dangerous Ravens. A team that wants to prove they belong in the Super Bowl contenders’ category.

The Patriots are unbeaten after eight games while the Ravens have won three straight. Both teams are leaders in their respective divisions, which is the perfect setup for a fantastic Sunday Night clash. Let’s dive in.

The oddsmakers opened this game with the Patriots -4 for Sunday Night Football.  The line has danced around -4 and -3.5.

I haven’t found any sports betting site that has gone over -4 nor as low as a field goal difference. 57% of the betting public is swallowing the points and taking New England to cover the spread on the road.

The New England Patriots’ Edge Vs. The Ravens

The Patriots are unbeaten and riding a 4-0 record on the road this season. Their biggest strength has been the fantastic defense they have put together this year.

New England ranks second in total defense, but the best in points allowed with 7.6 PPG. They also are the best team in the NFL with 31 sacks and 25 takeaways. The defensive unit is putting historically good numbers during the first eight games of the season.

Because their defense has been so great, they lead the NFL with 31.0 points per game. Many of those points have come from defensive scores. The offense would be first to tell you they haven’t played that well.

Many Adjustments For The Patriots

The Pats are still adjusting to the changes their receiving corps has suffered over the first two months. New England played recently acquired WR Mohamed Sanu last week against Cleveland, but the chemistry between him and QB Tom Brady is not there yet.

What the New England Patriots can count on is the chemistry between Brady and WR Julian Edelman. Over the past four games, Edelman is averaging 10.7 yards per reception. It’s not a surprise considering he’s the only weapon TB12 trusts down the field.

The Baltimore Ravens’ Edge Vs. The Patriots

Baltimore has a lot of unusual features that make them a unique team to play against. The most obvious one is their versatile quarterback, whom not many seem to have a way to stop.

The Baltimore Ravens have the best running team in the NFL. They’re putting up college football rushing numbers every weekend. The team averages 204.1 rushing yards per game, and QB Lamar Jackson leads the way with 576 this season.

What About Mark Ingram?

Jackson is backed by tailback Mark Ingram who has 470 rushing yards and seven touchdowns this year. The one-and-two punch between these two players makes the Ravens a tough team to scheme against.

And then, there is the improvisation factor. Lamar averages 14.5 yards-per-carry whenever he scrambles vs. man coverage defense.

During his last game against Seattle, he had 116 rushing yards and one touchdown while torching the Seattle D. On defense, the Ravens have a couple of key guys that might be perfect for slowing down Tom Brady and company.

Earl Thomas is one of the best free safeties the NFL has seen over the past decade and has played against Brady during Super Bowl 49.

Baltimore also gets back CB Jimmy Smith, who hasn’t played in the last six games due to sprain knee. And there’s also Marcus Peters, who has been with the team just two weeks.

New England Patriots At Baltimore Ravens NFL Week 9 Prediction

The New England Patriots are unbeaten and deserve the respect of the league because, well, they have been the most dominant franchise the league has seen this century. Yet, there is nothing wrong with saying they haven’t faced any good competition in 2019.

Other than the Bills, no team they have played against has a winning record. The combined record of their first eight opponents is 14-37. Baltimore has had two full weeks to prepare for this game. We know both John Harbaugh and Bill Belichick respect the heck of each other.

Are The Ravens Ready For The Challenge?

They have had too many significant battles over the past few years to think otherwise. I fully expect Harbaugh to have his team ready to end the Patriots’ unbeaten run.

As much as I like the Patriots defense, planning against a player like Lamar Jackson and facing him on the field are two very different things.

His speed overwhelmed the Seahawks, and I would expect something similar will happen to the Patriots. New England’s offense is not good enough to carry this season, regardless. This will be the first true test of the season, and I expect them to stumble.

They are a work in progress unit that will face a Baltimore defense which has added massive talent over the past two weeks. Bet Ravens +4.
