New York Jets vs. New York Giants – NFL Preseason Week 1 Expert Picks

jets vs giants week 1 preseason game expert picks and predictions

The first game of the preseason is the perfect excuse to see what rookie QB Daniel Jones brings to the table when the Giants play the Jets in a New York battle.

It’s also the first time we get to see new RB Le’Veon Bell on a Jets uniform; if the coaching staff decides he will play. opened this game with the Jets as 2-point favorites in the spread. The betting line dropped half a point, and it might get at 1-point by the time of the kickoff.

New York Jets vs. New York Giants Betting Preview

Right now, 65% of the betting public money is coming on the Jets side. The issue with the Giants is they have basically zero players to throw the ball to.

The G-Men lost WR Corey Coleman after suffering a torn ACL in the first week of the training camp. Also, WR Sterling Shepard broke his left thumb.

And to make it worst, WR Golden Tate might be suspended because of a violation of the league’s policy. Those are three guys that can make plays and won’t be around.

Either way, it was unlikely QB Daniel Jones had a chance to play with the first team.

Jones was selected with the 6th overall pick despite not many considered him a first or second-round talent. He can show many experts wrong by putting on a show on Thursday.

I expect Jones to play an entire quarter and perhaps even two, but no more than that. Here’s the problem with betting Giants, apart from the injuries. The Jets defensive mastermind is Greg Williams, and he’s a lunatic.

Williams hates losing even in the preseason, and I expect to have something to welcome Jones to the NFL. On the other side, the new head coach Adam Gase will probably give some repetitions to second-year QB Sam Darnold.

Betting Totals During The Preseason

These two weren’t together last season. Knowing Gase is an offensive-minded coach I suspect he would like to see Darnold in action up close, with a new set of plays.

I certainly like to bet the totals during preseason games. After all, the players make a lot of mistakes, and the offenses are nowhere near ready. The Under is always is a good option especially in the first two weeks of the preseason.

Also, the head coaches will use the starters in the first quarter. For example, it’s unlikely the Giants use RB Saquon Barkley at all during the first two preseason games. There is no point on risking another injury.

What’s The Pick For The Jets vs. Giants Preseason Game?

Knowing the Giants are struggling to stay healthy and lack playmakers even with their starting lineup, the play is to go with the Jets in the spread. Covering 1.5-points shouldn’t be a problem.

That’s the great thing about the preseason is the point-spread is usually very low. The Under is also another good play.
