Chicago Blackhawks Vs. Montreal Canadiens Predictions
Both the Chicago Blackhawks and the Montreal Canadiens are outside looking in the postseason. Both teams are running out of time to make a run for a wildcard spot, and when they meet on Saturday, the urgency to win will be in play. With the regular season coming to an end there isn’t much time to make a late push towards the playoffs. Every game counts from now on. The Montreal Canadiens should know this firsthand as they blew an opportunity to get in the wild card spots by losing to the Islanders in New York (1-2) on Thursday Night.
The opportunity was perfect because the Canadiens trail both the Carolina Hurricanes and the Columbus Blue Jackets in the Eastern Conference standings. Carolina and Columbus will meet on Friday night, which would stall the losing team. Montreal currently has 81 points after 71 games played after missing the opportunity against the Islanders. The Blue Jackets have one of the wildcard seeds with 81 points in 70 games, and the Hurricanes have other with 83 points in 69 games played. The Canadiens need to snap out of a bad couple of weeks where they have dropped four of their last six games and three of the previous four. The offense is suffering lately with only six goals scored in those four defeats.
Chicago is in a similar predicament. They have 71 points after 70 games, and they trail the Arizona Coyotes by six points in the Western Conference wildcard standings. It looks harder for the Blackhawks to gain a spot in the playoffs, but the good news is they are catching fire. The Blackhawks have won their last four games in a row and five of their previous seven. It might be a little late, but they are surely making a push. If you are a Chicago fan, that’s all you can ask for right now. Their most recent wins against the Dallas Stars, Arizona Coyotes, and the Toronto Maple Leafs suggest Chicago is in the zone.
In the series between these two teams, Montreal has won the last two in a row, including the lone meeting in Chicago in December. That night the Canadiens won 3-2 while the game total stayed in the UNDER. The overall series in the last ten games have seen the Blackhawks as winners in eight of their last ten games. In fact, at some point Chicago spent around three years without losing to Montreal. Granted they only meet twice per season, but still remains as a confidence booster if you are the Blackhawks. Montreal has been a little shaky in their recent performances, and the lack of scoring chances is an issue, not even they can deny. On the contrary, Chicago is rolling. Let’s go with the hottest team. What’s the play? Blackhawks.
