2019 NHL Season Opening Night – Betting Lines And Picks
It’s been a long offseason for NHL fans, but we are finally here. The regular season begins this Wednesday, Oct. 2 with four games to start the year.
The action starts with Ottawa at Toronto at 7 PM EST, but viewers nationwide will be able to watch Washington at St. Louis and San Jose at Vegas on NBC, starting at 8 PM EST.
Without further ado, let’s get to this week’s NHL betting picks.
Washington Capitals +125 at St. Louis Blues -145 Total: 5.5 Goals
The reigning Stanley Cup Champions will take on the Capitals in St. Louis as they look to defend their title. Washington won the cup just two seasons ago, so this is a great way to start the season. However, we believe the oddsmakers have this one right and the odds market as shown it so far.
This one opened with the Blues at -125 and the Capitals around +105. Sharp action has moved the Moneyline to -145 in favor of the home team.

Jordan Binnington has proved he’s an elite goaltender as he rose from relative obscurity to lead the Blues to a Stanley Cup title last season. He’s been fantastic against the Capitals attack in the past. That is unlikely to change, especially with mostly the same personnel and coaching staff in Washington.
It’s a tough price to pay, especially after the early line move, but the Blues have a significant advantage here.
Our NHL Pick: St. Louis Blues -145
Vancouver Canucks +117 at Edmonton Oilers -130 Total: 6 Goals
The Oilers may have the best player in the NHL in Connor McDavid, but so far that hasn’t translated into victories. Vancouver opens the season at Edmonton, a team they have dominated in the preseason. They have also been scoring a lot of goals in exhibitions contests compared to last year.
This line has not moved much since opening. Bettors will be able to find the odds around the same price as when they opened a few days ago. That’s good because there is still a lot of value with Vancouver.

I will be interested to see if the Canucks go with Vancouver in the match since he’s been hugely successful in previous starts against Edmonton. He has a 1.95 GAA average compared to 3.26 GAA for Koskinen.
Booser will also make his return to the lineup, and I do think people are underestimating this unproven, but still talented and young Vancouver offense. Take the plus money.
