Nuggets Vs Rockets 2019 NBA Season Week 5 matchup odds & pick

Denver Nuggets Vs. Houston Rockets Odds | NBA Season Week 5

We’ve got a fantastic Wednesday night matchup between two Championship hopefuls.

The Houston Rockets are greatly benefiting from their offseason pickup of Russell Westbrook, while the Denver Nuggets continue their slow and steady wins the race strategy.

Nikola Jokic is showing that centers too can get triple-doubles and that there’s no need to play at an incredibly fast pace to be effective.

James Harden’s goal is to show the world that he is indeed the best scorer in the NBA and deserved the MVP award last season.

What The NBA Odds Say About The Nuggets vs. Rockets Week 5 Matchup

These two teams will be in a neck and neck battle which makes sense since they’re second and third in the Western Conference at the moment.

At a two-point spread, this game is sure to be a close affair. Denver is 2-4 as a home favorite against the spread this season while the Rockets are 3-4 as the visiting team.

The more interesting part here is that both Denver and Houston have not hit the over in their games often.

Denver has only hit the over 33.3% while Houston has hit it 35.7% of the time.

Why Bet On The Houston Rockets?

If you believe James Harden can drop 40+ points tonight, then that’s the sole reason to bet on the Rockets.

However, that’s not an easy task against the Nuggets. They have shown that their strategy of clogging the paint with big men like Jokic and Millsap is highly effective against penetrating guards like Harden and Westbrook.

Their perimeter defense isn’t something to take lightly either. Jamal Murray and Gary Harris have turned into above-average defenders this season.

Some say that Harden is unguardable, however.

Assuming this, we have to look at the matchups for the rest of the team. Clint Capela has been underperforming this season, but Westbrook is in full force.

The backcourt duo will have all eyes on them with the injury to Eric Gordon. It’ll be tough for Denver to guard both of them, but that’s what the team is built for.

Why Bet On The Denver Nuggets?

The Nuggets are an incredibly smart team. They know their strengths and their weaknesses.

This matchup is between a team that has the third-highest pace played this season so far (Rockets) versus one who is dead last in pace.

Denver knows that if they try to run up and down the floor to match the Rockets’ pace then this game will go downhill very quickly.

Their strategy will be to force Harden out of isolation play and allow the worse shooters on the Rockets to take shots.

What About Westbrook?

Denver will live with Westbrook chucking three-pointers at his 22.7% rate this season.

It’ll also be difficult to run the pick and roll against the Nuggets due to their size and athleticism if they decide to use Jerami Grant off the bench.

The last advantage that the Nuggets have is that this game is being played in Denver. Players for years have said that this is one of the most difficult places to play in due to the altitude factor.

Denver Nuggets Vs. Houston Rockets Week 5 Prediction

Given all the advantages in the Nuggets’ favor, a solid bet would be to take them at -2. Houston has the firepower necessary to burst through the defense, but a lot of it rests on Harden’s shoulders.

The Nuggets will have a plan to shut him down and I expect it to work. As for the over/under, we should expect the Nuggets to slow down the overall pace of the game thus decreasing the total.

Definitely take the under at 225.
